Conyers fails to answer reporter's questions on impeachment
Michael Roston
Published: Friday August 10, 2007

Staff for Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) asked Harpers' reporter Ken Silverstein to submit six questions in May. The reporter said in a recent blog post that he has yet to receive answers to the queries, several of which concern impeachment.

"Back in May, I requested an interview with Congressman John Conyers, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and received a quick 'yes' from his office," Silverstein wrote at his blog, 'Washington Babylon' on Wednesday. "Since then, I have asked repeatedly for the promised replies and was assured that they would be forthcoming."

Three of the six questions Silverstein submitted concerned impeachment of President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, or Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. For instance, Silverstein hoped to get an answer to whether or not Rep. Conyers believed Bush and Cheney were, "guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors in regard to leading the country into the war in Iraq?" The Harpers' reporter also asked, "If President Bush wants Attorney General Gonzalez to remain on the job and the Senate’s vote of No Confidence doesn’t produce his resignation, will the Judiciary Committee seek to impeach him?"

Members of Conyers' committee are increasingly pushing for action by the Committee on the impeachment front. A significant number of Judiciary Committee members have signed on to Rep. Dennis Kucinich's drive for the impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney. Rep. Steve Cohen of Tennessee also announced that he was drafting articles of impeachment against the Attorney General earlier in the week. Additionally, Reps. Adam Schiff and Artur Davis have sponsored a no confidence motion against Gonzales that has garnered broad support among the House's Democratic membership.

1. Paul Craig Roberts quote.
"If only a sweet young thing would volunteer to give Bush a blow job so that he can be impeached before he leads us to Armageddon."

This coming from the Reagan's assistant Secretary of the Treasury.

2. Jeff Gannon already tried that. The would-be impeachers didn't go for it.
But then Bill Clinton wouldn't have wasted an of American city in response.

3. Silverstein Also Made Mincemeat of Tomasky's "Ode to Timidity"...
...in the Washedup Post last week.

I've seen circular logic, but Tomasky achieves double-helix. Sad what can happen to otherwise bright people when they spend too much time among the beltway bloviation crowd. There really does seem to be a geographic component that makes you wonder about the DC water supply (though more likely the info supply).

It'll be interesting to see if things change with them out of town for so long.
