Was Fitz in the WH crosshairs when they changed the law
that enabled them to fire federal prosecutors?

What do you guys think?

5. yeah, now I have feeling of dread
the patriot act what quite a while before Fitz was on the case, though. this may have been a preemptive executive power grab.

2. I don't think so...
but I really worry about his safety. Does he have any bodyguards? You know how it is with a cornered animal- they get desperate.

4. that's what I've been thinking...
So, what made them hold back on Fitz, if so? They've weathered other shit storms of criticism, so that wouldn't seemingly have made them hold back....

10. thank goodness
that is so good to hear that he has bodyguards. I don't think it matters that he is so high profile though, it has been done before.

btw- gorgeous felines, Cat Woman. I am a bit of a cat addict myself, I have several along with two Scottish Terriers. Warning to any future cat lover- do not do foster care- it is nearly impossible to give up your little charges!

9. On the Plame scandal,
they would have to have evidence that he violated either the law per say, or have some specific ethics violation. Keep in mind the letters from Mr. Comey that gave Mr. Fitzgerald his authority. I think it is evident that Mr. Comey took the steps he did for very specific reasons.

13. I thought the WH had blanket authority to fire/hire AGs whenever
they want to. I didn't read the conditions of Mr. Fitzgerald's hiring, but I thought it was blanket authority to do whatever they want.

15. Though that is true,
Mr. Fitzgerald's position is distinct from the Attorney General's. One model, while not exact, would be when Nixon's infamous massacre. He actually had grounds .... but it was still so outrageous, that he suffered massive consequences. For this administration to try to remove Mr. Fitzgerald would be even more extreme, and the consequences of such a desperate attempt would be more extreme, too.

16. Hi, H20Man. Is the destruction of the Cheney memo in the indictment?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16770023 /

Prosecutor says Libby destroyed Cheney memo
Fitzgerald says VP told his former top aide about CIA agent's identity

WASHINGTON - Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald used his opening statement in the CIA leak trial Tuesday to allege that Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff lied and destroyed a note showing Cheney's early involvement.

Fitzgerald said Cheney told his chief of staff, “Scooter” Libby, in 2003 that Wilson’s wife worked for the CIA and Libby spread that information to reporters. When that information got out, it triggered a federal investigation.

“But when the FBI and grand jury asked about what the defendant did,” Fitzgerald said, “he made up a story.”

Fitzgerald alleged that Libby in September 2003 “destroyed” a Cheney note just before Libby's first FBI interview when he said he learned about Wilson from reporters, not the vice president.

19. No.
There is going to be a significant amount of evidence that wasn't listed in the indictment. Pretty exciting, isn't it? Man! we've been waiting for this a long time.

Wishing you the best on this wonderful day in American history!

sees our first woman president! Say hi to President Pelosi. :)

21. Pitch black
One of their darkest days, by far. And I hate to admit it, but I'm humming and singing (while doing some house cleaning) I'm so happy! Does that make me a bad person?

22. I think that today
is going to be remembered as a significant point in one of the most important episode's in our recent history. I think that these people -- Libby, Cheney, Rove, Bush, etc -- have attempted to butcher the Constitution of the United States. So I think that all people interested in democracy and the rule of law are pleased today.

24. Fitz could lose his prosecuter job under PATRIOT
But not the special counsel job under which he is prosecuting Libby. To fire him from the Libby thing, Bush would have to do something special ala Saturday Night Massacre.

25. As long as the law was passed after Fitz Appointment he's grandfathered.
They can't make the law retroactive. His rights are preserved as if the law were never passed.
