How many deaths in Iraq are due to insurgency fighting

compared to

the numbers of deaths due to al Qaeda fighting?????

I am aware that there are overlaps and difficulties in determination etc., but if the deaths due to the insurgency are a significant proportion of the total, then the American public will be outraged that their soldiers are being killed in a civil war and will demand that we withdraw.

I'm sure the data is out there.

Additional rationale: The WH and many Republicans continue to focus on fighting due to al Qaeda and ignore fighting due to the insurgency since justifying the use of American troops in a civil war is greatly more difficult than justifying their use against terrorists ("If we don't fight them there . . ." etc.) That's how Kove want's us to think.

If the total deaths due to al Qaeda are less than half and we can show that . . . the game is over.
