Bush Signs Law to Expand Eavesdropping

Associated Press
Monday, August 6, 2007; A04

President Bush signed into law yesterday an expansion of the government's power to eavesdrop on foreign terrorism suspects without warrants.

The law, which updates the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, was deemed a priority by Bush and his chief intelligence officials.

"We must remember that our work is not done," Bush said upon signing the bill at Camp David. "This bill is a temporary, narrowly focused statute to deal with the most immediate shortcomings in the law."

The new law, which aims to capture foreign communications that pass through the United States, will expire in six months unless Congress renews it.

6. The "gutless, cowardly, spineless" were 100% Rupuke
and 25% Democratic. So, the vast majority of our party voted against it. But you bitch only about the Democrats. How strange.

2. Technically, it's not an expansion at all
since it has been going on illegally for around 6 years now ...:evilfrown:
It's an expansion of de jure power but not de facto power.

4. What real difference has this made?
We all know there were no impediments before. He's admitted it already.

The only thing changed is that he's been handed immunity from prosecution.

And with his signing statement, he can already ignore whatever legal constraints that were in the bill.

For SIX WHOLE MONTHS, he has a free hand. A lot of damage can be done even in that short time.

Yup!

Can they prosecute him for torture? Oops, Dems gave him that immunity last year.
