Am I wrong to be angry at the myriad of Congressional vacations?
I was relieved like everyone else in America when Democrats won a majourity in 2006 but this vacation nonsense rubs me the wrong way. And maybe it shouldn't! Am I just over-reacting to "business as usual" vacations that they deserve or should I be expecting more from these guys, especially since more of them are liberal. December 2006 wasn't that long ago and I remember Steny Hoyer telling a crowd of journalists that they were going to usher in a five-day work week for Congress. Hoyer, Pelosi, et al were intent on fixing the shoddy image of Congress that 12 years of republican control had left in the minds of the average American. These vacations - and especially the pushing through of important legislation (e.g. eavesdropping bill) at the last minute just so they can get out of town - in my mind does not serve to improve the image of Congress which continues to spiral downward.

1. It looks like the dem leadership has failed us again. They have a lower
approval rate than *ush.

2. Yes you are wrong.
My Congressman uses the time to meet with constituents. He has a load of events planned.

Also, they are away from home and family. I really don't see a problem with this.

In fact, I want my Congressman to come home so I can bend his ear on the war.

3. Much of their "vacation" time is spent in their home districts
serving their constituents in other ways.

5. Fair enough then, although maybe call it something other than a "vacation".
I know, that's nitpicking :)
