My mother was involved in hiding Jews from the German occupation. This is part of her story.

Every evening at near darkness she swept around the house, carefully not making tracks.
Every morning at first light they checked for footprints near the windows, under the eaves.

One day the footprints were there. They had no way of knowing if the spies had learned of the Jewish family hiding in the house.

The family refused to stay and place Mom's family at risk. Mother had gone all around trying to find another hiding place without success.
Mother was always still near tears 50 years later when telling of that Jewish family walking down the street out of sight that day.

Start sweeping your eaves every night. The Nazis occupation is upon us. I see their footprints everywhere.

5. She taught us that it is wrong to invade other countries!! To say the least.

They had to eat sugar beets (cattle fodder) to survive. Invasions are like that.
