Giving Alberto Gonzalez (and, George W. Bush) expanded powers is like giving a rabid dog a bionic makeover. Oh, yeah, that's JUST what these people need--less oversight and more ability to run roughshod over our Constitutional rights.
If they couldn't make do with the powers they already had, there is something fundamentally wrong with the whole setup. Retroactively granting them the authority to get away with things they'd done that were blatantly illegal was an exercise in gross mismanagement on the part of the very people who should FUCKING KNOW BETTER.
Did they really believe we'd THANK them for this? That all of us out here who regard this administration with the fear and loathing reserved for Palpatine's Empire wouldn't draw back in speechless horror just long enough to marshal ourselves for a full frontal assault on those who'd caved so easily?
The so-called "War On Terror" has never been anything but an excuse to pull the biggest con on the American people since the so-called "War On Drugs." Both have been little more than a way to weasel their way into the guarded vault of the Constitution and piss all over that "damned piece of paper."
THEY HAVE ALL SWORN TO UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION. Every last stinking one of them. And, it seems, should it become an obstacle to whatever gameplan they have in operation, those oaths mean NOTHING.
Do they think we're fucking stupid?
