Couple welcomes 17th child — and wants more
LITTLE ROCK - An Arkansas couple had a baby daughter Thursday — their 17th child and seventh girl — and the pair say they're still not ready to give it a rest.

Jennifer Danielle was born at 10:01 a.m. at a hospital in Rogers, Arkansas, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar said in an interview.

"We'd love to have more," Michelle said, referring to baby girls. "We love the ruffles and lace."

Jennifer joins the fast-growing Duggar brood, who live in a 7,000-square-foot (650-square-meter) home in Tontitown. All the children — whose names start with the letter J — are taught at home.

The oldest is 19 and the youngest, before Jennifer, is almost 2 years old.

5. I was so intrigued I watched it a couple times
They are Stepford folks. All the kids dress alike. And the girls dress like Laura Ingalls Wilder.

4. I predict the fertility rate among their offspring will plummet
because I saw that happen in my own extended family. There is nothing like growing up surrounded by gobs of siblings, 3 in diapers at a time and all competing for Mom's limited attention, to sour somebody on duplicating the process.

In the meantime, they get to be nuts. I don't mind. They just produced my share, too, since I never had any.

7. I was raised Catholic
and knew a lot of families with a lot of kids. But they were not crazy like these people. Most were really neat families and it was always fun to go over to visit.

8. Scary people.
I've watched this brood on tv a couple of times out of sheer boredom. I believe they are all robots. It doesn't take a genius to give birth to 17 babies. Any animal has the ability to do that. They attribute their fertility to the goodness of God. I attribute it to a lack of birth control. Somehow I doubt that God is that interested in their litter.

9. Why are they so famous??
Lots of families have this many kids. (Some much more admirable families have adopted that many.) My neighbors when I was a kid had 20.

Is it the combination of buttloads of kids PLUS blondness and overgrooming PLUS the mansion?? Some kind of twisted republican ideal? Why am I even putting this in the form of a question?
