Mother Marked Kids For Death, Coroner Says
Mother Shot Son, Daughter, Self In Home

CINCINNATI -- A Delhi Township, Ohio, woman marked her children for death before killing them Tuesday morning in a murder-suicide, police said.

Hamilton County coroner O'dell Owens said Wednesday that it appeared that Jacob Wittich, 10, and Sydney Wittich, 7, were drugged with Benadryl or a similar substance, then shot twice in the heart at point-blank range by their mother, Mary Ann Wittich, reported WLWT-TV in Cincinnati.

Owens said each child had an X written with a black marker over the heart.

Owens said Mary Ann Wittich then shot herself in the heart.

Neighbors said Wittich was distraught because her husband had left the family, but they said they never expected anything like this.

(AP) ROSLINDALE, MA -

Investigators believe a mother accused of killing her two children poisoned them
and detailed her plans in journals, according to a police report filed in court
Thursday when the woman was arraigned on murder charges.

Angela Vasquez, 31, pleaded not guilty to two charges of murdering Dennis Burgos Jr.,
10, and Yasmine Burgos, 13, in the family's Roslindale home last weekend.

Vasquez was arrested Wednesday at Brigham and Women's Hospital, where she was treated
for self-inflicted stab wounds. Police initially said the children also were stabbed
to death, but later said the exact causes of death had been determined. They have since
not commented on the condition of the children's bodies.

On Thursday, a police report said observations made during an autopsy of the children
were "consistent with poisoning." The report also said investigators found an open bottle
with the residue of a "bluish powdery substance" in the family's home.

The report said writings and journals belonging to Vasquez were "clear evidence of planning."
