The Carlyle Group Establishes Infrastructure Investment Team; Industry Veterans Robert Dove and Barry Gold to Co-Head Eight-Person Team that Will Purchase Public Purpose Projects

Washington, DC – Global private equity firm The Carlyle Group today announced it has established a team to conduct investments in the infrastructure sector, including investments in transportation and water facilities, airports, bridges, ports, stadiums and other public infrastructure. The initial team of eight will be co-headed by Robert W. Dove, former Executive Vice President at Bechtel Enterprises, and Barry P. Gold, former Managing Director and Co-head of the Structured Finance Group at Citigroup/Salomon Smith Barney. The team begins work at Carlyle on March 13, 2006.

David M. Rubenstein, Carlyle Co-founder and Managing Director, said, “Robert and Barry have the experience and credibility to hit the ground running. The U.S. is finally starting to realize what the rest of the world has learned, that private dollars can help alleviate persistent infrastructure challenges.”

11. A bit of Lenin
...

"Meanwhile, the state still maintained state ownership of what Lenin deemed the "commanding heights" of the economy: heavy industry such as the coal, iron, and metallurgical sectors along with the banking and financial components of the economy. The "commanding heights" employed the majority of the workers in the urban areas."

13. In all Carlyle Group threads, I remind that the co-founder was a Jimmy CARTER staffer
Edited on Sat Aug-04-07 11:07 AM by UTUSN
CARTER had a nest of vipers at his breast: Tweety, Pat CADDELL (who non-stop criticizes all Dems), and the Carlyle guy David RUBENSTEIN, who, however, sounds like a good guy (below). CADDELL was supposedly the wunderkind of CARTER's victory--something like a lesser combination of KKKarl and pollsters Frank LUNTZ and Dick MORRIS (who is cousins both to Roy COHN *and* Jules FEIFFER, might as well throw in the kitchen sink here). But CADDELL's bitterness might have something to do with his string of failures following the CARTER win---failing at every candidate and project (the New Coke).

.... In a column posted yesterday on Salon.com, Joe Conason writes: "Preferring to avoid public scrutiny for obvious reasons, executives at the Carlyle Group usually say nothing about their firm's connections with the Bush dynasty. But last April 23, Carlyle managing director David Rubenstein spoke quite frankly about the comfy sinecure he provided to George W. Bush more than a decade ago -- and how useless Bush turned out to be. Whether he knew it or not, Rubenstein's remarks to the Los Angeles County Employees Retirement Association were recorded."

Rubenstein said, "We put (Bush) on the board and (he) spent three years. Came to all the meetings. Told a lot of jokes. Not that many clean ones. And after a while I kind of said to him, after about three years - you know, I'm not sure this is really for you. Maybe you should do something else. Because I don't think you're adding that much value to the board. You don't know that much about the company.

Rubenstein continued: "He said, 'Well, I think I'm getting out of this business anyway. And I don't really like it that much. So I'm probably going to resign from the board.' And I said, thanks - didn't think I'd ever see him again. His name is George W. Bush. He became President of the United States. So you know if you said to me, name 25 million people who would maybe be President of the United States, he wouldn't have been in that category. So you never know. Anyway, I haven't been invited to the White House for any things." ....
