At least 30 people were swept away by the tide in east China's Zhejiang Province on Thursday, and searchers have rescued only 22 so far.

The rising tide swept away a crowd of tourists and locals at around 4 p.m. at a T-shaped levee at the inner part of the Qiantang River mouth, said Zheng Yiren, an official with the Hangzhou Maritime Affairs Bureau.

Rescue workers said the people who were swept away were either swimming or walking on the levee in Qibao, Xiasha District, about 20 kilometers southeast of the downtown of Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang.

Two of the missing have been identified as 15-year-old boy Liu Tao from southwest China's Chongqing Municipality and 21-year-old male student Yu Xiaoyao, from Shaanxi Normal University. Three vessels are still searching the area. )
