Attn Media Asshats: Acronyms vs Place Names ..... Its NASA, not Nassau ......

Ever since that astronut woman was arrested (in diapers .... as they've been reporting endlessly) the media newzreaders have shown themselves to be total asshats.

The name of her organization is National Aeronautics and Space Administration - NASA for short. The way it is pronounced is NAH-suh.

Nassau (pronunciation NAH-saw) is a resort island and a city on Long Island, in New York.

The one to put me over the top on this was MSNBC's Chief Washington Asshat, Noron O'Donnell, who is always too busy bullying Democratic guests to learn to say stuff the right way.

2. What's really confusing in Houston is.....

The town across the street from the Johnson Space Center is named "Nassau Bay".

I once heard a newreader, when speaking of the woman who ran over her husband in a hotel parking lot a few years ago, call the hotel the 'NASA Bay Hilton', when she meant the 'Nassau Bay Hilton'.

And please, don't ever refer to me as 'XNASSAU'.

This isn't new. Even Jim Lehrer butchered my college town's name in 2004, calling it "Temp-ay" instead of "Temp-ee". Tempeh is what we vegetarians eat, Jim!


Kind of reminds me of the 2000 election when Mel Carnahan died, and for a few days everyone in the press called the state "Missouruh".

Some college buddies of mine are from there, and they say someone calling their state "Missouruh" is a surefire way to tell they aren't from there.
