Democracy Corps thinks James Carville is going to help Dems get elected?
Just got this email.

For those of you unfamiliar with Carville's games following the 2004 election, read this -> http://newsbusters.org/node/8187

Dear Friend:

Democracy Corps has completed two surveys - a national poll of 1,000 likely voters and a poll of 1,300 likely voters in 70 competitive Congressional Districts - which shows the Democratic advantage in Presidential and Congressional elections has been consolidated, with Democratic Members of Congress gaining in strength while Republicans weaken. While many in the press have reported that both parties are equal partisan offenders against the public good and sensibilities, this completely misreads the current moment and the trends unfolding before the electorate.

In their latest strategy memo, Stan Greenberg, James Carville, and Ana Iparraguirre offer message strategy for Democratic incumbents and the Democratic Congress - who should act with confidence on their current standing and the current dynamics – and use this moment to define what they are trying to achieve and what the President and the Republicans are trying to stop. We hope you find this material helpful in your work. If you have any questions or comments, please contact us at 202-478-8300.

3. Do you think Woodward is wrong?
On page 344, Woodward describes the doings at the White House in the early morning hours of Wednesday, the day after the '04 election.

Apparently, Kerry had decided not to concede. There were 250,000 outstanding ballots in Ohio.

So Kerry decides to fight. In fact, he considers going to Ohio to camp out with his voters until there is a recount. This is the last thing the White House needs, especially after Florida 2000.

So what happened?

James Carville gets on the phone with his wife, Mary Matalin, who is at the White House with Bush.

"Carville told her he had some inside news. The Kerry campaign was going to challenge the provisional ballots in Ohio -- perhaps up to 250,000 of them. 'I don't agree with it, Carville said. I'm just telling you that's what they're talking about.'

"Matalin went to Cheney to report...You better tell the President Cheney told her."

Matalin does, advising Bush that "somebody in authority needed to get in touch with J. Kenneth Blackwell, the Republican Secretary of State in Ohio who would be in charge of any challenge to the provisional votes." An SOS goes out to Blackwell.

The rest is history.

7. Woodwards wrote two Bush ass-kissing books before State of Denial
I'm not saying he's wrong, but I'm saying that I don't take what he says at face value.

2. I suppose there's no reason to question whether that Carville story is true
After all it appeared on NewsBusters which is "Exposing and Combating Liberal Media Bias."

I suppose expressing an admiration for James Carville makes one pro-Bush?

12. (shrug) And NARAL advertises as a pro-choice group, AARP as a old foks group...
... and so on. In reality, all of them, Carville included, are about nothing more than maintaining entrenched power.

13. I have a lot more faith in Howard Dean...
than I ever will James Carville. If I remember right, and please correct me if I'm wrong, Carville tried to push Dean out after the 2006 elections.
