Americans moving to Canada reaches 30 year high
OTTAWA - The number of Americans admitted to Canada last year hit a 30-year high, fuelling a pattern that suggests the drain of Canadian brains south of the border may be a shrinking phenomenon

The number of Americans accepted in Canada reached 10,942 in 2006, almost double the number admitted in 2000. By contrast, the number of Canadians admitted to the United States in 2006 dropped sharply from the previous year, falling to 23,913 from 29,930.

The data were gathered and analyzed by the Montreal-based Association for Canadian Studies. Executive director Jack Jedwab said an analysis of the numbers shows Canada is enjoying an upswing as a preferred destination for Americans, many of whom are increasingly well-educated.

That hasn't happened since the 1970s, when the U.S. was experiencing political turmoil. From 1970 through 1974, Canada was admitting between about 22,000 and 26,000 Americans a year, many of them draft dodgers from the Vietnam war.

5. Yes. There are only certain things that will allow you to go to Canada.
To immigrate to Canada, you need to fall into one of these groups:

1. Skilled Worker Class Immigration
2. Business Class Immigration
3. Family Class Immigration
4. International Adoption
5. Provincial Nomination
6. Quebec-Selected Immigration

Since you will be retired, that leaves you with one option, number 3.
Do you have any relatives in British Columbia who can sponsor you?
Even though you have enough money to support yourself, you will still
need to be sponsored by a relative.

In terms of specific Canada immigration information for retirees the bad news is that Canada doesn’t welcome retired persons as an individual group of people into their visa program. Therefore if you’re considering retiring to Canada and you have family already living in the country you can apply for immigration stating that you will be joining them. The other alternatives include starting a business in Canada, investing in the nation or getting a job there for a few years before retirement. The Citizenship and Immigration Canada website contains the essential, up to the minute information for immigrants and comes highly recommended by us.

6. I'm so grateful I'm "family class" because if I wake up the day
after the 2008 election and find out we have President Giuliani, I'm a Canadian.

8. Fuck yeah.
President Guliani, maybe not. President Thompson or Romney? Get me the fuck out. The only problem is that I am a law student with a wife and two kids. I am graduating in the Spring after the election and my wife is really interested in British Columbia. I am worried that I will either not be allowed to come to Canada or I will not be able to practice my livlyhood. What should I do?

9. Why don't you search for a job with a Canadian company?
Once you're established I imagine you can take whatever additional courses you might need to practice law there. We're looking at the other side of Canada. My husband was born in Nova Scotia, so we've always liked the Maritimes.
