Daily Show Guest Former Blair Press Secretary: Important to remember leaders are human beings
Edited on Mon Jul-30-07 10:34 PM by Hissyspit
"doing the best they can," said Alastair Campbell, pushing his new book.

"So are the people they invade," Steward tossed in just as it went to commercial.

1. Wish I'd seen that one. Nice smack from Stewart.

Stewart can be so strange. He's so on sometimes, and for other things that are incredibly important, he looks bored, and just doesn't engage them at all.

Very strange.

3. Well he's a normal person...and I bet like me (and probably others)
he goes back and forth between wanting to rip these assholes to shreds, and feeling like, "Fuck 'em, why bother arguing?"

4. Certainly true.
I was thinking of how he behaved when Scahill was on, talking about Blackwater.

Stewart dropped the book off the desk, and just acted completely indifferent. It was the weirdest behavior.

7. Boy, do I see your point there.

I was stunned at how disinterested he was in hearing what the "Blackwater" author had to say (Jeremy Scahill). I saw Jeremy in person, and he was fantastic (he gave a speech to SoCal Unitarians).

On edit:
I see we both thought of the same interview. I actually asked Jeremy about that - and Jeremy just shrugged and said, "I don't think he'd read the book, and understood the issue," or something like that (I'm paraphrasing). Jeremy just hadn't let it bother him.

P.S. Jeremy signed my book!

8. Very cool.

It had to be completely deflating for him to be treated like that. When he goes on Democracy Now!, he's on home turf, but would be treated like a patriot if he hadn't been a former employee due to his material and research.

When he went on the Daily Show, he had to think he was going to get to talk about it with like minded people. Jon looked like he wanted to take a nap during the interview.

It really shocked me.

9. Yep; I saw him in San Diego.
AND, I remember that 'Democracy Now' interview, also. I'm right with you there.

But, like another poster here said, it has to be exhausting trying to keep up with it all, and we're all 'off' sometimes.

We made up for it by giving him a warm welcome - on behalf of all DUers!

10. Excellent.

And I agree, that everybody is entitled to be off, and nobody is required to follow as much of this stuff as some of us do.

But, I wish he would have saved that night for somebody else.

5. Yes, Mr. Campbell, leaders are human beings
No matter how much their press secretaries try to convince us of their infallibility. Some even go so far as to ominously intone that criticism of Dear Leader "has been noted in this building" and that folks who doubt their programs (sorry, "programmes") are traitors who should be locked up.

Gee, this is fun, Ally. Can I call you Ally? Oh, one more thing: Fuck you.
