7. Wu wei
The Tao is elusive and intangible. Oh, it is intangible and elusive, and yet within is image. Oh, it is elusive and intangible, and yet within is form.

I can see him now prancing about in the latest leaf garb, bringing balance to Baghdad in his own inimitable way.

8. His silence is very easy to understand and very simple to put into practice,
yet no one in the world can understand it or put it into practice.

His words have a generous uncle and his actions a stingy aunt.

It is because people have too many choices that they fail to see him.
Those who hear him are curious, lazy, shy, and cheerful;
Those who imitate him are funny, stubborn, graceful, and humid.

Therefore, clad in preserves of many flavors, he conceals on his person a bucket of brilliant worthless pebbles.

9. Great words.
Edited on Tue Jul-31-07 03:10 AM by btmlndfrmr

In the places where armies march,
thorns and briars bloom and grow.
After armies take to war,
bad years must always follow.
The skillful commander
strikes a decisive blow then stops.
When victory is won over the enemy through war
it is not a thing of great pride.
When the battle is over,
arrogance is the new enemy.
War can result when no other alternative is given,
so the one who overcomes an enemy should not dominate them.
The strong always weakened with time.

Some more.

He who wishes to fight must first count the cost. When you engage in actual fighting, if victory is long in coming, then men's weapons will grow dull and their ardor will be dampened.

If you lay siege to a town, you will exhaust your strength. Again, if the campaign is protracted, the resources of the State will not be equal to the strain. Now, when your weapons are dulled, your ardor dampened, your strength exhausted and your treasure spent, other chieftains will spring up to take advantage of your extremity.

Then no man, however wise, will be able to avert the consequences that must ensue... In war, then, let your great object be victory, not lengthy campaigns."

10. If I was being bullied into voting for that Oil Giveaway bill, I'd leave town too
http://www.prospect.org/cs/articles?article=iraqi_oil_a_benchmark_or_a_giveaway

Big Oil gets to divvy up Iraq's oilfields and develop them at their leisure with GUARANTEED profits. If there are any table scraps left after the Big Boys have pocketed their guaranteed profits, the Iraqi's get to divide them up among the waring factions.

Its a law only Dick Cheney could love.

The Iraqi Parliament will approve it at their peril...and they know it.

He'll be doing "hard work" at the Crawford chicken ranch. Ya know its "hard work" to so whatever they do when they're doing whatever they do if they ever do it. It's just hard work thinking about that...why don't we all take August off.

It'd be nice if our soldiers could take the month off as well.
