Michael o'Hanlon (spent 8 days in Iraq.. claims we are "winning")
and of course the guy who claims he's promoting propaganda, is accused of ....of....wait for it...wait for it...

being "negative" and spreading propaganda, himself..

O'Hanlon (Brookings Institution) is becoming almost a 'regular' these days..

These are the new talking points..

We CAN win this war.. we ARE winning this war..and anyone who says otherwise..is being negative and spreading propaganda..

the real danger is that he's being touted as a DEMOCRAT....Somebody must be paying him some big bucks to undermine the real reporting coming out of Iraq..

Media wins either way, since they can claim "more than fair & balanced" when they bring this guy on "from the left" and have another "from the left" to oppose him.. No republicans needed this time.. they get to have a democrat tear down another democrat..and they have the soundbyte to "prove" that democrats can't even decide who is the 'truthiest"..

Michael O'Hanlon
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

Michael E. O'Hanlon is a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, specializing in defense and foreign policy issues who began his career as a budget analyst in the defense field. He is regarded as one of the most militaristic major national security experts in the United States Democratic Party. O'Hanlon's areas of expertise are Arms treaties; Asian security issues; Homeland security; Iraq policy; Military technology; Missile defense; North Korea policy; Peacekeeping operations; Taiwan policy, military analysis; U.S. defense strategy and budget.<1>

O'Hanlon earned an A.B. in 1982, M.S.E. in 1987, M.A. in 1988 and a PhD in 1991 all from Princeton University and is now a visiting lecturer there. O'Hanlon served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Congo Kinshasa in the 1980's.

On July 9, 2007, O'Hanlon said during a panel discussion in Washington that a "soft partition" of Iraq is already occurring that would break the country up into three autonomous regions - Kurdistan, "Shi'astan" and "Sunnistan." "Iraq is being ethnically segregated. Ethnic cleansing is on its way, it's happening, and at least a couple million people have been displaced. It's becoming Bosnia in some ways,' he added.<2>

13. My boy??
My boy? My feelings are not in support of Bush's policies and how we arrived here. My disgust is over Democrats who are so in bed with defeat that there is no possiblity of our government coming to a consensus over the correct way to proceed. Can you imagine the negative impact that a positive turnaround in Iraq would have on the Democratic party?? It has all become so predictable. Every word out of these puppet's mouths. Do we need any more reason than what we have been subjected to on a daily basis to push for smaller government???? They are all cut from the same cloth.

16. Then please tell me, how do you define success in Iraq?
Edited on Mon Jul-30-07 05:37 PM by cui bono
And what's your plan for achieving it?

And are you there? In the military? If not, why not?

What exactly are we losing anyway? What would we be winning?

The Dems are the ones who are saying the military won, they did the job they were assigned, they toppled Saddam. So bring them home already.

Does this administration have a plan? If so, how's it working?

Democrats are speaking the truth. Republicans -- in shrinking numbers -- are in denial.

Country wide demand is ~8500MW. Prior to the war they were at about 3300MW with a severly unmaintained grid. They are currently at about 5800MW following 4 years of work. Simply stating they have 1 hr of power a day shows your ignorance. Please start watching more than MSNBC.

45. You should stop listening to Rush
>>>snip
In referring to some past records the Plan makes statements which are contradicted by common acknowledgment or by records in other reliable references. For example, the "achieved" part of the curve in page 24 indicates that no power cuts whatsoever took place in the country immediately and for two years after the January 1991 war. The curve also shows that in that year, electricity supply had dropped to around 4000MW and that the 1990 electricity supply level of around 5000MW was recovered by 1993. In fact, a UN report of 2001 - based on information supplied by Iraq's officials - showed available generation to have dropped to around 1750MW, and that recovery by 1993 was to only around 3750MW: approximately half of the available power pre-1991. Reports by US authorities and Iraq's Ministry of Electricity officials all indicate that Iraq's electricity generation capacity before April 2003 was in the region of 4000MW, not just under 6000MW as shown in the Plan's curve
>>>snip
To conclude, Iraq's public electricity supply industry had installed generating capacity of just under 10,000MW at April 2003. Since then that has been added to, theoretically, to over 12,000MW yet supply to the public has remained throughout the period at around 4000MW, including imports, against an estimated present demand of around 8500MW. Any honest and proficient approach to Iraq's present electricity problems would make a start by studying and analysing these figures, and proceed with measures to eliminate or at least reduce the gap.

Plans for additional installations must take into consideration all factors and circumstances in the light of historical experiences, prevailing circumstances and future likelihoods. None of these feature in the Iraq's Ten Year Electricity Master Plan, as issued by Iraq's Ministry of Electricity in June 2006.

54. Oh boy, today's the day the neocons have been praying for!
Someone of a Lieberman-type in the media to tell us we're "winning"! What are we winning? Why, a "sustained stability", that's what. Gotta have that to get the oil-producing infrastructure up to snuff, so that those multinational corporations won't lose too many employees when they start overseeing production. Fox news covered this article BIG TIME on Shit Fume's roundtable today. They are rubbing their hands with glee that Repub Senators who have "gone soft" will now go back to supporting the prez on Iraq.
