I know a lot of people are going to think it's dumb for me
to be sad about this, but I'm so sick and tired of people dying from cancer.

Another person who brought a lot of happiness to my life is gone because from this vicious disease.

Fortunately this time, it's not a family member, but Bill Walsh obviously has family.

You just wonder what the amount of money we've spent on this war and defense could do in the fight against cancer :(

Former 49er head coach Bill Walsh dies

(07-30) 12:33 PDT -- Bill Walsh, the imaginative and charismatic coach who took over a downtrodden 49ers team and built one of the greatest franchises in NFL history, died Monday morning at his home in Woodside at the age of 75, after a long struggle with leukemia.

<snip from Wiki>

**He's survived by his wife, Geri, and two children, Craig and Elizabeth. Walsh's son, Steve, an ABC News reporter, died of leukemia at age 46 in 2002

1. Dumb? Not at all.
Walsh makes two today who died of leukemia.

I'm 51 years old and had two high school peers die of cancer in the last month.

I'm really sad, too. :-(

3. I don't think it is dumb.
I've lost family members to cancer and just last week discovered that a dear friend has brain cancer. It's a vicious, horrible disease.

I'm sorry you are hurting.

4. I hear you! The word 'cancer' makes me sick...
Lost my mom last September after a very short battle with stomach cancer. Lost an extended family member last week. Let's declare a War on Cancer!!! It's a crime that we are pouring billions into the pockets of 'defense contractors' while this disease kills millions...

5. Hey, I'm sad, too, about Walsh.
I've already been long in mourning for the Niners, the Team of the Eighties.

15. on top of that...the folks who lose their homes because they can't afford to fight it
I was reading the NY Times this Sunday and there a lot of folks who have to pay out of pocket because even if they have insurance...it won't cover their medical bills.

16. It saddens me, too. Despite detesting pro sport's predations, I admired Walsh.
When I moved to the Bay Area in 1983 (post-"catch"), I was already a 49ers fan ... and enjoyed absolutely every game. They modeled the best of professional football, imho. Never before and never since have I had such admiration for a coach and a team like the 49ers under Walsh.

It's a loss ... and very sad. :-(
