A leading Democratic House member has been accused of supporting a U.S. radical organization alleged to have aided the Sunni insurgency in Iraq.

Rep. Henry Waxman, chairman of the powerful House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, was said to have helped two anti-war groups bring cash and supplies to terrorists in Faluja. The two groups were identified as United for Peace & Justice and Code Pink: Women for Peace.

(Ret.) Air Force Lt. Col. Robert Patterson, a best-selling author who once carried the nuclear missile codes for President Bill Clinton, said Waxman helped the two radical groups deliver $600,000 to people who fought the United States. Patterson, author of "The Left's Campaign to Destroy Our Military and Lose the War on Terror," said Code Pink also opened an office in Baghdad to encourage U.S. soldiers to desert.

Waxman has not responded to the charges. His office did not return a phone call from Insight asking for comment.

All the potential abuses of the Patriot act coming into play - with a respected Congressman as the "example"

They just changed the definition of "terrorist" and "radical". And if they choose to, they can hold him indefinitely. And guess what? It's all legal! Not constitutional, but legal until the SCOTUS rules otherwise (and good luck with that).

17. Which is exactly what they're suggesting...
"pkronfield says:
I believe President Bush has recently signed a finding that outlaws this sort of thing, and empowers the U.S. government to seize any funds from any organization which undermines the stability of Iraq. Therefore "United for Peace and Justice", and Code Pink should have all assets stripped and their principals indicted for criminal activity. If it can be proven that Waxman enabled this activity, he should be prosecuted and his assets stripped."

Well, that's a fair and balanced source. These desperate fucks. It's unfortunate swift-boating worked so well with Kerry; it's elevated the basic smear campaign to an art form.

I can just see Waxman, all 5'3" of him, wearing desert fatigues, face painted desert camo, M-4 slung over his shoulder, cigarette dangling from his grizzled lower lip (almost igniting his mustache), accompanied by peace activist/terrorist cell members of Code Pink and UPJ, also camo-ed and equipped with the latest high-tech weaponry, doing the covert ops three-step dance, covering all directions, then yelling "clear" and moving to the next point of cover...

All to deliver a sum of money equivalent to what the invasion/occupation spends in less than three minutes to persecute and murder little brown people. ( http://cryptogon.com/?p=252 )

Seems like FedEx would have been a lot cheaper and less obvious. But hell, he's a retired non-bird colonel so he must know exactly what he's talking about, don'tcha think?

36. We protest in a park every Sunday
and today when we got there, a camera crew asked us to move. They were there to film a commercial and they had a permit and they didn't want our signs in the background on their film. We explained that we stand on the grass between the sidewalk and the curb and that is public property. And the director who was talking to us was an ass. So no, we weren't going to move. So he called the police.

Now we have been protesting at this same site for over 4 years now and we have called the police when we have had beer bottles thrown at us and cars come up over the curb and even people walking up and trying to rip our signs out of our hands and one idiot who spit at us. Oh and one time a cop drove by and flipped us off! And have the police EVER come when we called? Hell no.

But today when this damn film crew called and in spite of the fact that NO ONE was being threatened, the cops were there in 5 minutes.

They suggested we move a bit so we wouldn't be in the camera shot. We said no, we are on public property, we need the entire block, and it is a big park. The cops had to agree and told the film crew to work around us.

So we proceeded with our protest and the film crew set up a tent, served champagne and appetizers to a bunch of important looking people and NEVER once turned on their cameras. An hour later, when we left, they STILL had not started to film their damn commercial.

45. I have to ask: Why do you hate America?...
You seem to begrudge an ad agency's honest efforts to serve its client by creating a fine 30-second work of cinematographic art, shown coast-to-coast for two months, picked up overseas, which should result in increased consumer demand for the company's product, which would then cause the company to ramp up production, resulting in thousands of American workers getting hired into high-paying unionized manufacturing jobs with full benefits, which would add stability to the lower middle classes and create a new sense of place and community as rent payments turn to mortgages, and happy property tax payers would smile as they watch their money converted into schools, libraries, parks, infrastructure improvement, area-wide wireless coverage and so forth...

So, I have to ask again, why do you hate America and why wouldn't you get out of the film crew's way when all they were trying to do was contribute to the coming American renaissance?

49. Well, either way...
I just think you should have more concern for the engines of free enterprise as they work to elevate this great country from the muck and ooze of mediocrity and place it once again at the pinnacle of the world economic pyramid through the customary breathless hucksterism, ad industry shuck and jive, the embarrassment of marketing, glad-handing sales people brimming with false cheer and heartiness, and it finally comes down to a choice made by brain-dead Walmart burger-engorged lumps who would buy anything at any price because Jen or Brad endorses it (so who needs all the above?).

I guess it's one more example of the liberal media not reporting the good news that, although you delayed filming of a single commercial, several hundred thousand other advertising shoots went off without a hitch around the world. Beat that for spin, KKKarl.

It's a right-wing lunatic suggesting the Bush Administration should confiscate the assets of their political opposition. He's sort of pointing the discussion that way and giving it a gentle push. He's suggesting they should go all-out fascist.

That was written in the wake of Bush's ridiculous executive order regarding people who 'aid groups that undermine Iraqi stability'.

26. More info:

Lt. Col. Robert B. "Buzz" Patterson U.S. Air Force (Ret.) is Chief Operating Officer of the David Horowitz Freedom Center and a member of the Board of Directors of Move America Forward (MAF). Patterson hosts The Buzz Cut, a weekly radio program on RighTalk.com and writes The Buzz Cut, a regular column "carried by the conservative national newsweekly, Human Events."

Patterson was a member of the "outing" which "brought right-wing talk-show hosts to Iraq" in 2005 to "tell 'the good news that the old-line liberal news media won't tell you about"—and which was the creation of the Republican Party-affiliated public relations firm Russo Marsh & Rogers (RM+R), Aaron Glantz wrote July 31, 2006, for Inter Press News Service. The "tour" was "sponsored by the newly created Office of Media Outreach, a taxpayer-funded publicity arm of the Department of Defense," Marie Therese reported for News Hounds.

According to his MAF bio, "Lt. Col. Buzz Patterson is the author of two New York Times best selling books, Dereliction of Duty: The Eyewitness Account of How Bill Clinton Compromised America’s National Security and his recently completed Reckless Disregard: How Liberal Democrats Undercut Our Military, Endanger Our Soldiers, and Jeopardize Our Security, which was released in July 2004." Both books were published by Regnery Publishing.

"Patterson served 20 years on active duty in the military with distinction and saw tours of duty as an Air Force pilot during combat operations in Grenada, Somalia, Rwanda, Haiti, and Bosnia.

"From 1996 to 1998, Colonel Patterson was the Senior Military Aide to President Bill Clinton. During that time he was responsible for the President’s Emergency Satchel, otherwise known as the 'Nuclear Football', the black bag with the nation’s nuclear capability that accompanies the president at all times. In addition, Colonel Patterson was operational commander for all military units assigned to the White House, to include Air Force One, Marine One, Camp David, White House Transportation Agency and White House Mess."

33. Sounds pretty vague at this point
What did these two groups do in Iraq? If they had money transferred to Iraq, to whom exactly did it go? If it went to anyone, how are those people connected to "insurgents" (which can be a very vague term). What's Waxman's role if any in this other than the vague accusation that he "helped"?

To me, it sounds like he's throwing something up against the wall to see if it sticks with the public. How would a retired Lt. Col. and book author get this type of information ahead of any law enforcement entity and be the first to make this charge? Of course, the Freepazoids are going to cream their shorts and spread this story around, even with such vague accusations. And I suspect the intent of these types of stories is to stir up controversy and have a chilling effect on members of Congress in doing their jobs of oversight.

Just my personal observation.

I'm an Army vet and somewhat biased, but it seems there are a lot of gung-ho war lovers in the USAF. IMO, they like to be war vets without the front line combat.

The great majority of USAF people are really fine Americans but they have a lot of these war-lovers who never saw grunt combat.
