Gates hints what could happen if the "surge" fails

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2007/02/07/51503.aspx

<snip>

Gates also said the so-called "surge" strategy "is not the last chance," and that he would be "irresponsible" if he didn't consider possible alternatives in case the plan fails. One of those possible options, he indicated, would be to reposition US troops in Iraq "out of harm's way as much as possible and then see where we go from there."

That sounds familiar...

1. They should reposition troops back to the US......
that would be the only way to keep them "out of harm's way".

4. Or, they could admit reality. We lost. Time to go.
Instead they will send more cannon-fodder and pray for a miracle.

5. Nope we can't do that
This is America - we aren't going to impose some sort of "reality" test on our leaders!

7. "One of the possible options ..."
President Fucktard will consider it ... before announcing another 15,000 troops are being sent.

8. Gee, if I ever invade a country for lies, torture people, disappear them
and hold them in secret prisons, violate international and federal law, rewrite federal law to make my crimes against humanity legal, or engage in extraordinary rendition - I sure hope I can keep doing the same things over and over again until I can figure out a way to spin my crimes into a victory in such a way that doesn't make me look like the war criminal I am

but that's just me...

9. The man's a genius!
Maybe he's been watching the new generation of inspirational videos being made by insurgents showing American soldiers being blown to bits by IED's.
