MPC (Military Payment Certificate) gone but not forgotten
When I was sent to Vietnam in mid sixties we immediately had to turn in all our money to the military. US dollars were forbidden. It was well understood that US Dollars could and would be used on the international market to purchase arms and supplies to be used against our troops. We did not want to make it any easier for the enemy than we had to. US dollars are/were accepted anywhere. It is harder to spend the currency of a new shaky government. Might be here today and gone tomorrow, but US currency was solid. In fact it was considered treason to spend actual green back dollars in Vietnam although they were worth four times the value of MPC. IMO this was sound judgment on the part of those that sent us off to war. What happened to that sound judgment? Why are we flooding our enemy with US Currency? Why is/was our government sending thousands of millions of dollars in untraceable cash into the hands of our enemies. What happened to the logic of denying our enemy? Why is Bush* supplying the enemy with the money to kill our troops with? and a better question is why is no one asking about it. I know there is a committee meeting happening right now asking about where the money went but no one is asking why cash was sent in the first place. Why?

if not exactly with fondness.

2. I remember some of the Mommasons when the MPC was changed
I spent a couple of tours and during that time MPCs were changed four times. A lot of Vietnamese were left holding a lot of useless MPCs that they believed were a treasure. So not only did the government restrict the flow of Greenbacks but they also managed MPCs to stop Black Market traffic. One day they had a small treasure and the next day they were holding meaningless paper...Whores were bummed...

3. I was only there for a year, and they weren't changed during that time
The only "Black Market" trouble I had was the inability to get the brand of cigarettes I preferred at that time (everyone smoked back then). My brand was Salems, and the "girls" liked them, too. Naurally the PX's were always out of them, and I had to have my family mail them by the carton, greatly adding to the expense. Between shipments, I'd smoke Kools, but it wasn't the same. If only I'd had the sense to quit then, instead of 15 years ago. Oh, well...

4. I can remember seeing cartons of unopened Kools that contained
Marijuana instead of tobacco. Sold for ten dollars. Imagine that..today they would be worth hundreds if not thousands..Some of the strongest pot in the world as well...Those were the days..Young and Dumb and full of Cum...
