Folks - the dominos are starting to fall
Edited on Thu Jul-26-07 11:51 AM by Ugnmoose
We are all frustrated by how slowly things move through Congress and we may yet experience more frustration, but I do believe today marks a turning point in getting due process. The cabal will no longer be able to stonewall behind the shield of Executive Privlege. And once the evidence starts pouring out, the whole house of cards will collapse upon itself. At that point, the pressure will be so great that the Repukes will do to Bush/Cheney what they did with Nixon, and tell them to resign for the good of the country (more likely for the good of the Party). Perhaps this is why Pelosi said impeachment is off the table. She just might know that this is the direction the whole thing is heading. One thing is for sure, we do not know yet what Congress knows, but we are beginning to find out. Grab a chair and heat the popcorn, this is gonna get real interesting.

2. For some reason
this makes me a little nervous. Maybe because I so much want the dominos to fall, maybe because I've seen too many moments when I thought we were at the edge, only to have terra warnings or plane crashes or whatever it takes to get people back into line... I think you know what I mean... anyway, I hope you're right.

5. Yes, in fact we do already know what Congress does not
Congress has been willfully ignorant of the wrongdoing of the Executive. What is happing now is not revelation of new material, its all been known here for months at least, its that now some members of Congress are putting it out in public. There has been next to nothing reveled lately that we did not know well before seeing it mumbled by the lips of Congress.

12. True..but
The report that was issued yesterday by the Dems outlining the evidence of possible crimes and need for legislative redress, is the foundation for the rebuttal against Executive Privlege. There is solid legal precendent in the SC for this. The turning point today, is the affirmation by Congress that this is now a criminal investigation.

they are following legal procedure which is what needs to be done if we're going to get these criminals. It serves no purpose to throw out charges if you can't back it up.

I am saying that before the House Cards can fall, * will pull a 9-11 to solidify his power by fear.

Old-line Republican warns 'something's in the works' to trigger a police state
    Muriel Kane
    Published: Thursday July 19, 2007

Thom Hartmann began his program on Thursday by reading from a new Executive Order which allows the government to seize the assets of anyone who interferes with its Iraq policies.

He then introduced old-line conservative Paul Craig Roberts -- a former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury under Reagan who has recently become known for his strong opposition to the Bush administration and the Iraq War -- by quoting the "strong words" which open Roberts' latest column: "Unless Congress immediately impeaches Bush and Cheney, a year from now the US could be a dictatorial police state at war with Iran."

"I don't actually think they're very strong," said Roberts of his words. "I get a lot of flak that they're understated and the situation is worse than I say. ... When Bush exercises this authority ... there's no check to it. It doesn't have to be ratified by Congress. The people who bear the brunt of these dictatorial police state actions have no recourse to the judiciary. So it really is a form of total, absolute, one-man rule. ... The American people don't really understand the danger that they face."

Roberts said that because of Bush's unpopularity, the Republicans face a total wipeout in 2008, and this may be why "the Democrats have not brought a halt to Bush's follies or the war, because they expect his unpopular policies to provide them with a landslide victory in next year's election."

However, Roberts emphasized, "the problem with this reasoning is that it assumes that Cheney and Rove and the Republicans are ignorant of these facts, or it assumes that they are content for the Republican Party to be destroyed after Bush has his fling." Roberts believes instead that Cheney and Rove intend to use a renewal of the War on Terror to rally the American people around the Republican Party. "Something's in the works," he said, adding that the Executive Orders need to create a police state are already in place.

"The administration figures themselves and prominent Republican propagandists ... are preparing us for another 9/11 event or series of events," Roberts continued. "Chertoff has predicted them. ... The National Intelligence Estimate is saying that al Qaeda has regrouped. ... You have to count on the fact that if al Qaeda's not going to do it, it's going to be orchestrated. ... The Republicans are praying for another 9/11." ...

26. I HOPE it's a turning point...
...but I'm not confident.

What if BushCo simply claims more executive privilege to ignore the whole thing? The way I see it, there's no way they would be so cavalier about simply setting aside the Constitution unless they knew full well that those who would be the final arbiters of whether or not their actions are unconstitutional -- the SCOTUS -- were already in their pocket.

And, indeed, if this matter comes before the Court, who do you think will gainsay King George? Chief Justice Roberts, the creator of the "unitary executive" theory? Alito, one of the theory's biggest advocates? Scalia? Thomas? As I see it, Bush already has four of the five votes needed to set his imperial presidency in stone. All he needs is Kennedy to go along -- and Kennedy's been voting a lot more reliably conservative over the past term than he did a few years ago.

public are ugly enough, the public might even pressure the Repubs in both houses of Congress hard enough to get them to go along with impeachment of SC justices.

32. I wish I could share your optimism.
We have a group of democrats in Congress who are too afraid of their shadows to do anything.
They are all talk and bluster, but have not taken one step forward to bring the criminals in power to justice. They have taken impeachment off the table which is dereliction of duty. Democrats will never gain respect until they begin to lead instead of waiting for the winds of change to blow. They should be out front and actively pursuing impeachment now. Timidity is the word for this democratic congress and they will never be winners unless they join together and stand up for what is right. Bringing the bush criminals to justice is the right thing to do. Anyone who says wait for things to happen is just naive.

"the hidden White House documents" what do they contain, what will they reveal, will the 60,000 missing but recently found Rove emails bring anything to light? Will Gonzo finally resign after he finds out he's being investigated by Patrick Fitzgerald? Will the Recent Cheeeney health warnings help him to resign for heart related problems after all?

38. Here is the final nail in the coffin
The Dems want the documentary evidence to support the testimony they have already received. Bushco is stonewalling on the documents because they know it is the smoking gun that will convict them all. Once this evidence gets before the Congress (and it will), the Repukes will fold their tents and it is game, set, and match at that point. Nixon held out on the tapes for exactly the same reason. Once those tapes were revealed and introduced as evidence, they all knew it was over.

43. BushCo will NOT allow the dominos to fall . . .
that's why Bush has issued a series of Executive Orders that will make him dictator at the time of his choosing . . . if the heat gets too hot -- if the dominos indeed start to cascade -- he'll jump right in with his customized monkey wrenches . . .

as I've said many times, Bush did not issue those Executive Orders to benefit some future president . . . he signed them, and he intends to use them . . . unless Congress acts to pre-empt his power grab with more than subpoenas and contempt citations (which he will reject), we are royally screwed . . . and the time for impeachment is fast running out . . .
