Not that I mind.
Consider the picture we were all painted of Republicans prior to Bush. They were the grey suited bankers, Competent, stiff and sound, wouldn't allow change if it hair-lipped grandma's dog, did not lie, never backed down, and were the bedrock of local communities nation-wide.
Then came Katrina. Also, people started paying attention to Iraq - not as a war already won but as a worsening conflict with no end in sight. Gas prices shot up. Layoffs continued and the press made a problem out of illegal immigration. People were abandoning the Republican Party in droves and they lost heavy in the 2006 mid-term elections.
It was thought that 30% of the public would support Bush if he ate live babies on stage. He's in the 20's now. What's next? Well, their followers will tell you, 'they may not be the most competent, but they are god-fearingly honest and decent.' Well, maybe not.
Two Judiciary Committees, Senate and House, are actively pursuing investigations that are clearly leading to sustainable perjury charges. Everything needed for conviction is not only on paper, but its on the official record of the Government of the United States of America. So much for honesty. Then there were the sex scandals. I won't go into them, you can find all you want with a quick search.
And this is the state of the Republican Party. Don't let anyone blame it on Bush alone, don't let them restrict it to the Executive either. This is the Republican Party we find in 2007, liars, cheats, and whoremongers. This is the Party we will face in next year's elections.
