A democrat , inaugurated in 01-09 can just appoint someone to research and gather all signing statements and executive orders that Bush did...and the new president can just VOID them all ..in one fell swoop..

He/she could then INSIST that Reagan/Bush1 papers be brought back to DC and RELEASED in-full ...Sending some US Marshalls and some trucks down to Texas ought to do the trick...

He/she should also RE-INSTATE the executive orders that Bush reversed...

I'm sure there are many more uses for all these new-fangled powers he and Dick grabbed..but these will do for starters:)

2. that's what I've been telling the RWers
don't want to curb imperial presidency - good, can't wait until a Dem is wearing the crown and is able to wave a scepter around

if bush/cheney is not impeached or otherwise reigned in - the full extent of their powers become precedent and part of the inherent presidential powers

3. Have you heard one word from any candidate about doing that?
Any candidate of either party? Do you get that absolute power corrupts absolutely and that amount of power will destroy anyone who touches it?

If the power passes unchallenged to the next president, we have a disaster.

4. IF the Chimp's signing statements
Edited on Thu Jul-26-07 06:17 AM by NI4NI
and all his claims of executive privlege were already ruled constitutional by the SCOTUS the republicans would be whining and crying like the spoiled hypocrites they are if a Dem President did the same;
But seeing how the SCOTUS has not yet been asked to rule on any of them, (not sure about Gitmo) the republicans would be taking cases there quicker than you can say Scalia, Alito, Roberts, and long dong silver.
And just because the four supreme whoresmen of the apocalypse believe that a president should be given extra executive powers, it doesn't mean a Democrat President.

just saying

5. I would bet
that if the new president has courage, they would be able to dig up evidence of law breaking. And set the depoliticized DOJ on the trail. Perhaps the impeachment clock will run out... but am starting to wonder about lawbreaking in office - can criminal charges be brought when admin members are no longer in office?

7. Thta's true, BUT, with poll numbers as shitty for the repubes as they are now, even Karl
probably cannot figure out how many votes to steal...and in which districts.

He thought he had it covered in '06, and we still managed to overcome it. (I firmly believe that we "had" more congressional wins than we got credit for..but the rout was bigger than he thought)
