Gore cancels scheduled Thailand visit
Al Gore has canceled a scheduled appearance in Bangkok to give a talk on global warming scheduled for next month due to workload.

The former US Vice President was originally scheduled to arrive in the capital on August 8 but his representatives have now confirmed that the event will not be taking place due to Gore’s heavy workload.

Gore had earlier accepted an invitation from the Pacific Basin Economic Council (PBEC), an independent business association that links economies of the Asia-Pacific region to come to Thailand to talk about global warming.

1. Think I'd heard about this before...
Speculation was made that maybe he was canceling for some other reason, maybe making preparations for something else...

2. Calm down he's not running
god knows I wish he would.
The WORLD NEEDS GORE!!!!! BUT... he's not running.
Have you seen his movie, he only dedicates a couple minutes and a paragraph or two to the campaign. he was broken by the scotus. Having that election stolen from him broke him. He will never run for another public office ever again :(.
GOD I wish he'd run! but it/'s not going to happen :(

3. What he is doing is more important.
Yeah it would be great having a brain in the White House. But I rather have a champion working in the world to save the world. Change ideas and thinking first. Then politics will follow.

4. sadly I agree
gods I wish he's run. But he is causing more conversations and acceptance of the global warming issue than if he was a candidate, where they'd just trash the science behind it. it's a win-loose proposition really. win because he/s making people accept something is going on, loss because we don't get him in the white house (where he should have been the last 8 years).

I actually heard someone in my office say "I believe in climate change, but to think we had anything to do with it is arrogance beyond belief". If my position was stronger, I might have pointed out a few facts, but seeing as he's about 3 levels above me, I kept my mouth firmly clamped. Correcting executives is a great way to get canned (as a contractor). But at least the sense is out there even among the (self done) stupid rich/powerful.

5. You could leave a copy of Scientific American laying around
Its either the current issue or the previous issue that lays out the irrefutable evidence that we are cooking the planet. Let him find out without having to force it down his throat.

6. This was to be an important visit
Edited on Thu Jul-26-07 09:48 AM by DesertRat
Al Gore was to meet with the Thai Prime Minister which was planned to alert Thai society to the dangers of global warming which is a big issue in SE Asia. It's disappointing and surprising that he's not going. Unless he has other important plans...
