You’ve NEVER posted a thread asking for help in locating facts, stats, information of any kind, without knowing you’d get at least a half-dozen responses providing the information you’d requested.

You’ve NEVER posted a thread asking for advice on a personal matter, or just a sympathetic ear during a bad spell, without knowing someone would heed the call.

You’ve NEVER had a virulent argument with a fellow DUer on one topic, only to find you’re in total agreement with that same DUer on another.

You’ve NEVER read a post that didn’t make you say that’s it, I’m outta here, or a post that reminded you of all of the reasons to stay.

You’ve NEVER read a post that didn’t make you think you’re wasting your time being a Democrat, or a post that didn’t make you think how important being a Democrat is.

You’ve NEVER started a thread that didn’t require an asbestos suit, or a thread that didn’t require a press secretary to handle all of the glowing responses.

You’ve NEVER read a post that, while it may not have changed your position, didn’t give you some understanding of the other side of an argument.

You’ve NEVER posted a reply that you wish you could take back, or regretted the fact that you didn’t speak up in someone’s defense when you had the chance.

You’ve NEVER been tempted to call another DUer a moran, or been tempted to label yourself a moran after posting something in the haste of anger.

You’ve NEVER berated the Mods for locking a thread, or berated them for not locking one.

You’ve NEVER wanted to scream my opinion is the only correct opinion without later realizing that someone else’s opinion is as valid as yours.

You’ve NEVER abandoned a heated political discussion in GDP in order to join a heated discussion about Stevie Nicks’ talent as a singer/songwriter in the Lounge.

You’ve NEVER read a post quoting FreeRepublic without clicking on the link to verify, because you can’t believe that someone isn’t just making this shit up.

You’ve NEVER logged-in at three in the morning because you’re sleepless over a particular news event, without finding fellow DUers posting that they can’t sleep for the same reason.

You’ve NEVER read a post by kpete or Babylon Sister without wondering why they’re not anchoring the MSM news shows instead of airheads like Couric and Zahn.

You’ve NEVER read a post by contributors like Will Pitt and H2O Man without feeling a sense of pride that such articulate people are your fellow DUers.

You’ve NEVER checked out the Writing Group or the Photography Group and not been amazed by how much talent has been attracted to a single website.

You’ve NEVER posted a thread in the middle of a lonely night without knowing that within minutes, someone will assure you that you are not alone.

This is what DU is all about. In the days, weeks, and months ahead, let’s not forget who we are, what we came here to find or achieve, or why we stay – and what’s really important not to some of us in the short-term, but to all of us in the long-term.

If you’re a real DUer, you NEVER forget that despite our differences, we’re all on the same side.

This was meant to entertain - it's NOT a list defining who is a real DUer and who isn't.

I haven't done a lot of the things on this list myself - I just tried to capture (for laughs) some of the things many of us have done, and hopefully lighten up the mood here for a while.

And yes, I do browse other sites and am amazed at some of the bad grammar, spelling, etc. Sometimes someone here posts a few choice morsels frrom FreeRep, and I have to read them over and over - just trying to figure out what it is the person was attempting to say!

I'm afraid that when it comes to musical preferences, we all have to agree to disagree on any number of fronts.

I love Stevie, but my husband won't stay in the room if I'm listening to one of her CDs - even though I always do so with the headphones on. According to my SO, he can STILL hear THAT voice leaking out of the headphones, and he DOESN'T WANT TO HEAR IT!

It always gives me a laugh to watch those threads in the Lounge, usually in the wee hours, where people are screaming at each other over music - "You don't know what you're talking about, man!" - as though we can actually convince other people to change their likes or dislikes.

As for my SO leaving the room when Stevie's on, I do the same thing when he listens to Neil Young (ugh!).

But when it comes to Celine, you can pretty much count on a LOT of people agreeing with your oh, God, please make her STOP assessement.

When I saw the title of this post, I was ready to refute it, point by point. But I can't. I have done most of the above things and been happy, sad, angry, nervous, scornful, agreeable, and all things in between here in DU. the first time someone did not like what i said and proclaimed i was being added to his/her ignore list, i was hurt. After all, i consider myself quite harmless and amiable; I would never intentionally upset someone in this little community.

I know what you mean about taking a break. I took an involuntary break a while ago, because I was bed-ridden with a nasty allergic reaction to medication.
