My former employer used to strong-arm the workforce into donating to United Way, but would allow those of us with issues with that group to direct our contributions to another charitable organization. I chose the SFSPCA, which runs an animal-assisted therapy program. They train hearing dogs and provide "visiting animals" who go to nursing homes and visit shut-ins. For the lonely and neglected, these visits are the highlight of their day.

63. Had a nocturnal visitor or visitors last night !!!

I never saw a thing. I passed out at 10:30 and woke up around 12 to gather all the children. The children were kind of cowering in the living room facing their food table. Seems like a raccoon invited him/herself in thru the garage, thru the kitchen, and right up on the table. Ate every crumb of dry cat food in 2 bowls. Then left.


:rofl: I never heard a thing! I couldn't find Simon and I was freaking out. I thought they carried him away for dessert. But he was hiding on the other side of the coffee table.

I've got to get a cat door! That might help a little.

Sounds like you have to have a little talk with them about inviting their friends in. I think Peanut might be part raccoon, he always finishes all the dry food in the bowls.

They found a blood trail in the garage leading to the pet door, and their assumption was raccoons looking for food, coming in the garage, and, um...:cry:

Suburban 'coons tend to be very well fed. But I don't take anything for granted.

One night about 3 or 4 years ago, I saw a possum in front of our apartment building. At first, I thought it was a kitty - as I got closer, I realized no kitty. They mostly hang out down by the water (Bayonne is a penninsula) but occasionally they make it to the busier areas.

feral colony several years ago. They were hysterically funny. They didn't bother any of the cats or me, because, well, I had the food and they just loved cat food. They would eat right beside the cats, although the cats were smarter than I was. They held back a bit. I named them all of course. I got pictures of the episodes, life-long grins...

I opened the door to our patio a few years ago and saw a small table inching along the ground, apparently of its own volition. Then the table raised an inch, a black-and-white furry tail emerged, and - I GOT SKUNKED! Big time. It took two days to get the stench out of my nasal passages, but immediate application of Febreeze unstunk my shirt, jeans, and shoes.

So you never know what might wander onto your property. We've had opossums, foxes and coyotes on our patio. We once found a rattlesnake in our garage!

So our kitties are strictly indoor animals. They don't mind...they've never known anything else. (Hugging my little furry pals!)
