Crier Refers To O'Reilly As "Ludicrous" (O'Reilly To Speak At Nat'l Center For Missing Kids Event)
Edited on Tue Feb-06-07 10:00 PM by Hissyspit
On Countdown tonight, Catherine Crier, to be sure, was referring to Olbermann's hypothetical pro sports star who might make similar comments to O'Reilly's previous outrageous Shawn Hornbeck comments, and then be invited to speak at a March 9 National Center for Missing & Exploited Children fundraiser. She said anyone who would say something like that was "ludicrous." Clearly, though, they were referring to O'Reilly.

From Crooks And Liars:

http://www.crooksandliars.com/2007/02/06/will-oreilly-ever-apologize-to-shawn-hornbeck/

Will O’Reilly ever apologize to Shawn Hornbeck?
By: John Amato @ 1:25 PM - PST

I posted this outrageous video of O'Reilly blaming Shawn Hornbeck for not escaping Michael Devlin (He liked Devlin.) when he had the chance.

O"Reilly: I'm not buying this….If you have a strong bond with your family…even if the guy threatens you–this and that. You're riding your bike around, you got friends. The kid didn't go to school. There's all kinds of stuff. If you can get away, you get away Alright, if you're eleven."

Greta: Bill, it seems bizarre to me…

The only thing bizarre Greta is O'Reilly. Even his own minions wouldn't back up O'Reilly on his preposterous assumptions. Now we find out that Devlin is being charged with:

Yet, Prosecutor Robert McCulloch announced at a news conference Monday that Devlin faces 71 counts in St. Louis County. The charges pertain to kidnapping, restraining victims and forcible sodomy. The charges were formed based on interviews with Devlin himself, and his victims, McCulloch said.

I challenge the National Center for Missing Kids to make O'Reilly apologize to Shawn before he speaks at an event for them being held in Naples, Fl. I've called their branch and I'm waiting for a comment, but I doubt they even know about O'Reilly's behavior.

1. Huh.
Is this the same organization that had Mark Foley as a prominent member?

10. From Wikipedia:
Edited on Tue Feb-06-07 10:10 PM by Hissyspit
Can't remember if he was a member of NCMEC, but...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Foley

"In the House, Foley was one of the foremost opponents of child pornography. Foley had served as chairman of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children. He introduced a bill in 2002 to outlaw web sites featuring sexually suggestive images of preteen children, saying that “these websites are nothing more than a fix for pedophiles.” As it was written, the bill would have prohibited commercial photography of children, and it failed due to the unmanageable burden it would have presented to the legitimate entertainment industry.<18><19> In June 2003 he wrote letters to the governor and attorney general of Florida, asking them to review the legality of a program for teenagers of a Lake Como nudist resort in Land o’ Lakes, Florida.<20>

Foley’s legislation to change federal sex offender laws was supported by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children..."

http://www.idyllopuspress.com/meanwhile/?p=1160

National Center for Missing & Exploited Children rethink statement on Foley (kind of)
Last night on their News and Events page, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children had placed this statement:

Congressman Mark Foley’s resignation is a great loss to Florida and the nation. He has been a hard-working, dedicated and effective Congressman. He will be missed.

Now they have:

Congressman Mark Foley’s resignation is a loss to Florida and the nation. He has been a hard-working, dedicated and effective Congressman.

So Foley is no longer a “great loss”, he’s just a loss. And he will no longer be missed…though he is a loss.

Or perhaps they thought that as it had already been stated his resignation was a loss to the nation, then it would be redundant to say he would be missed, loss already implying such.

Update: The Center has again rethought their statement (you knew they would) to read:

“In response to the numerous media inquiries we have received, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children is issuing the following statement regarding the resignation of Florida Congressman Mark Foley:

News reports regarding interactions over the Internet between former Congressman Mark Foley and Congressional pages are deeply troubling and convey strong suggestions of child sexual exploitation. NCMEC is not privy to the specific facts of the case and thus, it is inappropriate for NCMEC to comment or speculate about them.

Child sexual exploitation via the Internet has become an enormous problem, reaching into every aspect of society. It is imperative that every person become more vigilant and that we enhance steps to keep children safe online.

Congressman Foley has been an effective and dedicated Member of Congress. Nonetheless, if it is determined that he has engaged in acts which have harmed children or put them in jeopardy, like any other person, he must be held accountable. If he has violated the law, he should be prosecuted.”

11. Bump
Edited on Tue Feb-06-07 10:25 PM by Scairp
Come on y'all, I can't keep this on top all myself. Please keep bumped, and everyone please contact them about this. Public pressure can be very effective, especially if it affects the core of their supposed mission, which is to try and protect and support children who have been kidnapped and/or exploited. After the Foley debacle, if they catch enough flak, they cannot possible allow this evil asshole to speak at their $500 a plate fundraiser.

Also, one more vote and it goes on the front page, so please vote now.

3. It's war between Keith and Bill-O
Keith takes O'Reilly on honestly, the Giant Big Head responds by ripping NBC unrelentingly as being anti-American, when everyone with a brain knows it's Keith Olbermann that he is after. O'Reilly is just about ready to blow his cork, but he makes enough money for Faux that they do what he wants. I see John Gibson has also joined the bandwagon, in his crude and obvious fashion. Money talks, bullshit walks, and they know how to rake in the right-wing nutjob dollars. The scary thing is, Bill-O really is sincere in his hatred of Olbermann. It will be his downfall. Faux's only hope is to isolate him like Limbaugh, but that's tough when he has guests. Stay tuned.

20. Actually, I think Gibson is an O'Reilly wannabe
He knows where the $$ are. The more insane, the better the return. He actually started the War on Christmas crap before O'Reilly usurped it; now he is returning the favor by out-Billing Bill about NBC. Eventually, Olbermann's name will come up. I had hoped Colbert would spring it on Bill-O when he visited his show, but O'Reilly is one big, intimidating dude. I vote for Shaq to bring it up to his face.

4. They know about his awful remarks. Here's an article:
O’Reilly’s comment not a factor for fundraiser

Officials at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children believe that anyone who goes to a March 9 fundraiser in Collier County will walk away with an understanding of the magnitude of the problem of missing children in the United States.

That includes the center’s keynote speaker, Fox News personality Bill O’Reilly.

Joann Donnellan, spokeswoman for the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children, said O’Reilly would still be the speaker at the Collier County branch’s annual gala at The Ritz-Carlton, Naples, despite comments he made on his program about Shawn Hornbeck.
...
Donnellan said Wednesday that O’Reilly’s invitation was accepted in November to help raise awareness on the issue of missing and exploited children. She said the invitation to speak to the group still stood.

“We thought he would be an interesting speaker,” she said.

5. False and Unbalanced
I sent the following email to every email address at Faux News.

"Bill O'Reilly has condoned pedophilia and rape with his comments about the kidnapped boy. I refuse to watch Fox or patronize any of Fox's sponsors until he either resigns or is fired. All of my friends and family feel the same."

I never watch Faux or will ever watch Faux even if Orally is fired. I just had to make this statement.

Here is the link to all of the email addresses at Faux if you would like to makle a statement to the peeps at the False and Unbalanced news channel.

13. Having in the past gone to a conference where I received training
Edited on Tue Feb-06-07 10:29 PM by rebel with a cause
from members of this group, I cannot understand them still accepting O'Reilly as a speaker. My training was some twelve years ago, but they were a pretty gung-ho group at that time and not one to condone this type of attitude, but that was when Clinton was president and this is in the days of bush. Who knows what has changed in the last eight years?

From my education, training and short time working with abused and exploited children, I immediately understood what had happened with Shawn Hornbeck and why he had accepted his captivity. I have seen it happen too many times that the abuser isolates, intimidates, and assimilates their victim into a life that they have created for them. For O'Reilly to make the comment that he made just shows his ignorance and lack of understanding of anyone who is not in the bully position. If in truth, O'Reilly does like Devlin (the sexual predator) it is because he understands him as a fellow bully and power addict. JMOHO

Please do so, and spread the word to others who many not frequent this board and ask them to complain to NCMK re:O'Lielly speaking at this event. It's just unconscionable they would even consider still having him after he blamed a child for his predicament.

O'Rielly makes me sick. I've even been on his program and went toe to toe with him.

I'm tempted to get Takebackthemedia.com behind this, and get the word out, when is the Speaking engagement?

This needs to be on Buzzflash, KOS, Atrios, etc..

Spread the word, I know I will.

Thanks for doing this :)
