Does crying wolf hurt a cause?
If one sees a boogeyman about every issue, no matter if it's political or cultural, does it affect the overall message?

And if someone does see that same boogeyman, does that person automatically become your enemy? (Even if that person believes in those same causes.)

2. Try this
Do not post "flame bait" discussion topics. While there is no clear line regarding what constitutes flame bait, the moderators have the authority to shut down threads which they consider too rhetorically hot, too divisive, too extreme, or too inflammatory. Please use good judgment when starting threads; inflammatory rhetoric does not normally lead to productive discussion.

Do not start a new topic in order to continue a flame war from another discussion thread.

Do not talk negatively about an individual in a thread where they are not participating. Do not post messages with the purpose of "calling out" another member or picking a fight with another member.

4. Why don't you ask Judy Shepard?
"I am outraged that Mars, the NFL and these players would promote such an anti-gay message. This campaign encourages the same type of hate that led to the death of my son Matthew. It essentially gives 'permission' to our society to verbally or physically harass individuals who are gay, lesbian or bisexual," said Judy Shepard, Executive Director of the Matthew Shepard Foundation. "In particular, I am dismayed that these players, who are role models to our young people, would participate in perpetuating such discrimination and prejudice."

7. would you care to give us a clue as to what in the HELL you are talking about? there is no possible
way to have a discussion, since there is no clue as to what you mean.

if, as another poster indicated, this is some sort of carry-over from another discussion, it might occur to you to realize that people may not have been privy to that discussion.

if you are simply out to cause trouble, go do it someplace else--like freeperville, perhaps.

23. Specifically...
based on the information that you posted in another thread, given the topic of that thread and your comments here--these rules:

Do not post "flame bait" discussion topics. While there is no clear line regarding what constitutes flame bait, the moderators have the authority to shut down threads which they consider too rhetorically hot, too divisive, too extreme, or too inflammatory. Please use good judgment when starting threads; inflammatory rhetoric does not normally lead to productive discussion.

Do not start a new topic in order to continue a flame war from another discussion thread.

Do not talk negatively about an individual in a thread where they are not participating. Do not post messages with the purpose of "calling out" another member or picking a fight with another member.

20. Yes it definitely does
Some terms are losing their awfulness. It's like calling someone anti-Semitic for arguing the Israelis were wrong to bomb Lebanon or wrong to make settlements in the Occupied Territories. If that's anti-Semitic, there's a lot of anti-Semitism around. What were the Nazis then? Real Anti-Semites? Big or Super Duper Anti-Semites? It trivializes the suffering of the people who suffered from the serious version.

It's just name calling in a twisted, reverse sort of way.

I also get tired of the "My group is the most victimized" approach.

Funny, I have yet to see that game here at DU.

One of the good things I tend to see here, is people here tend to cross from one cause to another. Feminists support the anti-racists, support the GLBT rights people, support the people for indiginous people's rights, etc.

then when it really begins to fall no one will pay attention.

If you try to use some common sense around here and it isn't PC enough for DU you will get slammed for being you.

There are subjects on this board that you must conform to the majority belief or you are less than you should be.

This gets carried to the extreme I think. People get bullied because they don't agree with the majority. Well some of us won't be intimidated.

58. True but at DU it is the majority opinion that beats up on the minority.
My numbers don't show it but I have been here almost from the inception of DU. There are many issues here where there is a majority opinion and if you don't happen to agree with it you are labeled and bullied. It's been happening here for the last 6 years.

One good example was posted above. You cannot be anti Israel here or you are anti Semitic. You can't see that the Palestinians have a just gripe.

I "get" that you *feel* you've been unfairly labeled a bigot...and doesn't it just suck to feel that way? You *feel* the need to explain yourself. You *feel* the need to speak of your experiences. You *feel* the need to have people understand your point of view.

Shame you don't *feel* the need to give to others the very thing you want for yourself
