Snickers, Mars bars, Milky Way, M and M's
Does anybody over the age of 12 still actually eat that crap anyway?

So. The Mars company was trying to appeal to the young males.

They probably did connect with a few, but how many actually even go out and buy friggin candy bars anymore? Who in their right mind actually searches out high fructose corn syrup and then thanks them for having a "funny" commercial?

Nuts. Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't.

Am I supposed to pretend now that adults don't have chocolate every now and then?

5. Speaking just for myself, I had an O Henry candy bar not
two days ago.

They still taste pretty good to me, and it's been a damned long time since I was 12 years old.

As for the Snickers ad, I just felt that with all the creative people in the world, they could have selected a commercial that did not reek of homophobia.

and know that many enjoy chocolate.

I just can't take the HFCS that always goes along with it.

20. That's one of the people I've admired (loved!) most in my life: Barbara Jordan.
Edited on Tue Feb-06-07 07:24 PM by TahitiNut
I don't know if I could find anyone who better expressed what I regard as a political ideal. For me, she was one of the most awesomely attractive women I've ever seen and heard. If I could choose any person, living or dead, to be hugged by (and hug in return, of course), it'd be her. Hands down. I'd carry her books and sit at her feet (rubbing them when they hurt), and feel privileged to do so.

27. She was one of those rare human beings whose brains and heart were both beyond measure.
At the same time, she was a fully-equipped human being, with foibles and a sense of humor. She had grace ... and that's the rarest of human attibutes, imho.

36. You just gave me chills... head to toe!
Brains and heart, both beyond measure... well said... and so true. I'm going to go Google her name and read about her work... a little reminder... and probably a few tears. It's that "grace" thing. Gets to me every time. We need a lot more of that, more now than ever.

Edited on Tue Feb-06-07 09:00 PM by TahitiNut
Ubetcha.

I've only met 2 people (personally) in my entire life who demonstrated what I'd call grace ... and it overwhelmed me each time. Jaw-droppingly. Just the whole feeling of being completely comfortable to be truly me in their company was remarkable. Neither were public figures or anyone others would recognize ... but it was unmistakable. Until then, I didn't know what the word even meant. Now I do.

means Barbara has a kind face for a black lady and you'd expect a black lady to have a mean face! :spank:

... but all I see is someone whose beauty, intelligence, wit, heart, and grace brought tears to my eyes.

11. I like Three Musketeers candy bars and I think that the Mars commercial
Edited on Tue Feb-06-07 07:07 PM by Sapere aude
has nothing to do with any kind of attack on gay people.

People have made way to fucking much of this and IMHO it is the victim mentality gone way overboard.

I have a bag of mini Three Musketeers at home and will have some tonight.

We are getting too PC around here it is sickening. No smokes, no SUV's no guns, no laughing at funny commercials if someone is offended for nothing.

Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh! Get a life will you?

I waited and waited and waited. I chose what cereal I should eat and what deodorant I'll buy next but it took sooooo long to get a candy bar ad that really appealed to me, I made popcorn instead. See, they blew it.

I'm sick of people harping about crap without researching first! This is the about the fifth time I've posted a link to these nutrition facts today. Jeez.

Do not confuse HFCS with corn syrup... not the same thing.

I loved AlmondJoy/Mounds bars when I was a kid. Mars was second.

Although not the bar of choice, a Big Hunk would have sufficed for this sugar junkie. :9

21. I had a Snickers Bar Sunday before the game.
I eat M&Ms with some frequency.

Their target audience was football watching America. Their only purpose was to keep the product name in front of the people by creating a commercial people would talk about and remember for a while. Job done. There's no such thing as bad publicity.

Not in huge amounts, but I like an occasional Snickers or handful of M&Ms. M&Ms especially go well in trail mix, that I like to take when I go hiking. Does that make me an instant DU leper?
