Freepers Freak Over "Pelosi JetGate!" And More Freep-Like Pearls...

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will have access to an Air Force jet larger than the one used by her predecessor so she can fly nonstop between Washington and her San Francisco district....But the jet used by the previous speaker, Rep. Dennis Hastert of Illinois, was too small to fly to California without refueling.

As NewsMax reported earlier, Pelosi’s office has been pressing for routine access to military aircraft not only for herself and her staff, but for relatives and other members of the California delegation as well.

Pelosi’s aircraft requests have touched off grumbling about the speaker requesting more than her GOP predecessor.

Bring on the indictments! Grand jury investigations! Corruption!
:sarcasm:

The 'Real' Speaker Pelosi

The Democrats have taken control the House of Representatives and San Francisco Democrat Nancy Pelosi is Speaker, one of the most powerful constitutional offices in the United States.

Do you really know Nancy Pelosi?

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich does. He has warned a Democratic victory will turn over the House to "the San Francisco values of would-be Speaker Nancy Pelosi."

Just how dangerous, then, is the House Minority Leader from California to those who hold to traditional conservative values?

Pelosi is one of the most liberal members of the House, receiving a 95 percent "liberal quotient" from the Americans for Democratic Action based on her support for the liberal position in key votes

http://www.newsmax.com/adv/nov05/3.cfm?s=al&promo_code=2CF6-1

And so was Kerry, and so is Kennedy, and so is Biden, and Hillary, and Obama - ah what the hell, they're all "dangerous 95 percenters!"
:sarcasm:

:eyes: :nopity:

I think it's highly amusing that once Pelosi checked in, one of their first orders of business was to clean up the Repub's horrifically corrupt lobbying practices! AND, horrors - raise the minimum wage to increase the standards of living for millions of hard working Americans!

Anyway you put it...these articles indicate some SORE LOSERS out there!

2. Yes, it is, when the real story is available AND not from newsmax.

FACT CHECK: Washington Times Publishes False Report On Pelosi’s Use Of Military Aircraft
On February 1, the Washington Times published a story titled “Speaker pursues military flights,” which claimed that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) had been “pressing the Bush administration for routine access to military aircraft for domestic flights, such as trips back to her San Francisco district.” Former Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-IL) also used military aircraft to travel to his district. However, the Times reported, Pelosi is “demanding permanent access to a large military jet for herself, her staff, other Members and supporters.”

In fact, the central claims of the Washington Times piece are both false.

1) The House Sergeant at Arms, not Pelosi, initiated inquiries into the use of military aircraft. House Sergeant at Arms Wilson Livingood, who has served in his position since 1995, released a statement today clarifying the facts. He writes, “In December 2006, I advised Speaker Pelosi that the US Air Force had made an airplane available to Speaker Hastert for security and communications purposes following September 11, 2001.” Additionally, Livingood writes, “I offered to call the U.S. Air Force and Department of Defense to seek clarification of the guidelines .”

2) A larger plane was requested because Hastert’s plane required refueling to travel cross-country. The Washington Times says a larger plane was requested to accomodate Pelosi, “her staff, other Members and supporters.” That’s not true. In fact, the plane used by Speaker Hastert was too small for Pelosi since it “needs to refuel every 2,000 miles and could not make the nonstop haul to California. ‘The Air Force determined that safety would be best ensured by using a plane that has the fuel capacity to go coast-to-coast,’” a Pelosi spokesperson.

3. What is funny about this...
Hastert was a big fat slob and had to fly a small plane

Nancy is a tiny little thing and she gets a big jet.

I just hope I never have to sit next to Hastert on a commercial plane, Seat belt extenders please.

4. Hate-radio has to have something, don't they?
even as absurd as this. It was OK when ole Denny was using the jet. But Nancy? And she does have a much longer flight -- requiring the larger jet. Makes sense.
Unless you're a winger.
Then you're going to pounce on this because you've got nowhere else to go. The economy does suck -- unless you're in the rarified air of Bush and Cheney. (and, much as they'd like to believe it, the average freeper isn't even close). Iraq is a disaster. Global warming is not a liberal myth...even Bush is going green. (well, kind of a putrid pea green). Fox is losing viewership. Keith is gaining. And in freeperland, all is not right with the world.
So. Let's talk about Nancy. Not as much fun to hate as Hillary.
But she is a liberal. And a woman.
So. Let's talk about her.

When a Repub wants to fly in larger jets, it's okay. But Pelosi, who NEEDS a larger jet to take her to CA nonstop? No way. that's the double standard...

This is not to mention the luxury accomodations provided to the Repubs by the lobbyists who were fattening their wallets (think Abramoff, DeLay, and company).

13. Any details?
show me the posts on that assertion.
I think you're confusing our condemning Bush for using air force one to fly on a campaign trip to California while people were dying in Louisiana. And using a jet, flown by someone else, of course, to land on a carrier (delaying the return of the sailors on board so Bush could photo-op) and declare "Mission Accomplished". Or maybe you're thinking of him using jets to fly around the country after 9-11...trying to figure out how to distance himself from his disgraceful inaction when we were attacked.

20. Okay, I'll get majorly flamed here...but there are plenty of 'small' jets
with intercontinental range. The Grumman G-V can go 6000 miles and a couple of Cessna's Citations will make it over 3000. I don't begrudge the Speaker safe and convenient transportation but honestly it doesn't need to be a 757. Asbestos underwear firmly in place. ;-)

22. A Gulfstream G200 has the range and uses a whole lot less fuel
Edited on Wed Feb-07-07 08:03 PM by slackmaster
Or if that's too cramped, the G500 has a range of 5,800 NM, does Mach .885, and has over 1,600 cubic feet of cabin capacity. The G550 can fly from DC to Tokyo non-stop.

23. I have only about 7 hours in the G-V as co-pilot (not a type rating)
but I know the a/c pretty well. One of my good buddies since high school flies a Falcon like the one in this link
http://www.dassaultfalcon.com/aircraft/2000ex/

Believe it or not, not all pilots are right-wingers (although I admit most are), a lot of us who work for Republicans just do it more directly than most workers do. What I mean is, we're in pretty much close contact with the head cheeses than the people who labor in the production line. I've had plenty of fairly intense political discussions with CEOs, and have been fired 3 times for my opinions but
that's okay - most of them appreciate my willingness to express an opinion even when they disagree.
That's about the highest praise I can muster for (some) bigwigs.

24. If Tucker said it, chances are it's a lie.
But I heard somewhere she "wants a 757" which is a hell of a lot bigger than a '42 seater'.

See my other posts for some comments on this....
