It's time we started to use that word again, "un-American".
I know it fell into disrepute during the McCarthy era because of the abuse of it by that committee inquiring into un-American activities so many years ago. But there is a real bout of un-American actions going on today all the way right up to the Oval Office and it's time that we the people start pointing this out every time they use our Constitution for a metaphorical bird cage liner.

This month Harriet Meiers refused to appear before the Judicial Committee essentially sticking her third finger up to not only Congress but the Constitution itself. There is nothing patriotic or American about this action. Harriet Meiers I accuse you of acting in an un-American way by this refusal. I believe your action could be defined as treason. That goes for the stonewalling Gonzo and others who seem to think that the rule of law doesn't count anymore except as a tool they can twist for their own nefarious purposes.

That was the primary tactic of the Third Reich, keeping things sort of legal while busting up the Constitution of the Weimar Republic until it no longer existed except as a shell. We cannot accept that they can have carte blanche to do this to our Constitution. These people have committed un-American and treasonous acts and should be accused of it with no quarter given. Candidates for all public offices on both sides of the aisle, who still consider themselves patriotic American citizens, need to say this loud and clear in every campaign speech they make. Our country as we once knew it is hanging on a thread and we cannot let them take the scissors to that final thread without a fight.

"The American people reject the notion that Bush officials are above the law. The people consider that claim to be un-American. Every Tom, Dick and Harry must respond to subpoenas, and the people want Harriet Miers to be just as good a citizen as the rest of us. That's what Americans do. We play by the rules and expect our leaders to do the same."
