Striking Back at Planned Parenthood

There is a movement afoot to strip Planned Parenthood of millions of annual taxpayer dollars. One of the leaders in this effort is Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.), who I mentioned last week as being a chief cog in the effort to halt activation of the Fairness Doctrine, which Democrats hope to use to stifle conservative talk radio.

Rep. Pence, a rising star in the Republican Party, this week offered an amendment to the House appropriations bill (H.R. 3043) that funds the Departments of Labor and Health and Human Services, in order to prohibit taxpayer dollars from funding Planned Parenthood’s abortion efforts.

Sadly, the amendment was defeated (189-231).

I’m praying that down the road, we will be able to stop Planned Parenthood from receiving our tax dollars while performing a quarter-of-a-million abortions annually.

Planned Parenthood is America’s leading abortion provider and receives a staggering $65 million annually through Title X, the domestic family planning program.

The present bill would actually increase Title X funds to $311 million and would mean approximately a $15 million increase in funds going to Planned Parenthood, reports American Life League, which has for years been at the forefront of the battle to halt funds going to Planned Parenthood. ALL’s President Judie Brown stood shoulder to shoulder with my father in many pro-life battles through the years.

“Last year alone, according to Planned Parenthood’s own annual report, it received more than a third of its nearly $1 billion budget from government grants and contracts,” said Rep. Pence. “And again, according to its own annual report, Planned Parenthood performed more than a quarter of a million abortions last year alone.”

He says it is wrong to ask millions of pro-life Americans to fund the leading abortion provider in the United States.

I agree.

Mr. Pence also points to news reports that indicate allegations of serious legal violations Planned Parenthood clinics, including false reporting of information and dissemination of misleading advice and some of the organization’s counselors failing to report cases of sexual abuse and statutory rape.

We must continue this battle.

Planned Parenthood did receive bad news recently with the passage of a new law, signed by Missouri’s governor, that keeps the organization out of the state’s schools.

Finally, I want to remind readers about the anti-Christian tactics Planned Parenthood has utilized. At Christmas, the organization has sent out “holiday cards” bearing the idiom, “Choice on Earth,” a direct reference to the biblical phrase “Peace on Earth,” which was used to describe the miraculous arrival of Jesus Christ in human form.

Further, the Rev. Mark Bigelow, pastor of the Congregational Church of Huntington in Centerport, N.Y., and a member of the Clergy Advisory Board for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, defending this phrase, wrote in a letter to Bill O’Reilly, host of the Fox News Channel’s “The O’Reilly Factor”: “… one thing I know from the Bible is that Jesus was not against women having a choice in continuing a pregnancy.” That’s an astounding statement. And I urge every pastor to ensure that their congregations know that this is the legacy of Planned Parenthood.

I wonder if Rev. Bigelow ever read Psalm 139:13 (“You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb”)? This verse wonderfully illustrates that Christ is active in our lives from our very beginnings. Verse 14 continues: “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” We are indeed living wonders, touched by God from the onset of our existence. The God of the Bible would certainly not condone abortion!

I believe it is an offense of our government to require Christians who embrace this Scripture to be compelled to fund an organization that is so reckless with precious life.

H.R. 3043 has failed. But in its stoppage, we have seen a brighter spotlight aimed at Planned Parenthood. And we have seen a pro-life hero arising in Rep. Mike Pence.

I urge readers to visit Rep. Pence’s website (http://mikepence.house.gov <http://mikepence.house.gov/> ) and drop him a note of thanks and encouragement as he champions the rights of the unborn in our nation.

Please also continually pray that our nation will elect leaders who will stand against the powerful abortion industry so that we can turn back the modern holocaust of the unborn in America.

1. How about striking back against the holocaust against the poor in this country? You know the one
that keeps us uninsured, hungry, homeless or on the verge of these things?

4. I actually understand his argument, HOWEVER....
Mr. Pence & Mr. Fallwell must realize they live in a Democracy, and just because THEY and those who side with them disagree with some things taxpayer money is being spent on, that doesn't give THEM the right to force the majority to comply with their wishes.

There are MANY MANY things our Fed. Gov't spends a lot of money on that THE MAJORITY of Americans disagree with! The War, expanding the neuclear weapons program, Abstinence ONLY Programs, and thousands of "pet projects" that Mr. Pence's fellow congressmen chose, are all examples of issues the majority believe are wrong too!

6. I disagree with this war and my tax dollars are still
being wasted on it. Planned Parenthood does alot more than abortions. If these stupid bastards got their heads out of their asses once in a while they might see that. These people will not rest until every woman has 13 kids and no life outside of laundry and cooking.

7. "He says it is wrong to ask millions of pro-life Americans...
to fund the leading abortion provider in the United States."

It's also wrong to ask millions of Americans who don't go to church to fund "faith-based initiatives", too, to say nothing of the big tax breaks churches get. STFU, Pence, you pin-headed hypocrite.

At Christmas, the organization has sent out “holiday cards” bearing the idiom, “Choice on Earth,” a direct reference to the biblical phrase “Peace on Earth,” which was used to describe the miraculous arrival of Jesus Christ in human form.

"OMG! Those evil libruls are casting asparagus on us by surging the war on Christmas! This is hugh! I'm SERIES!!!!11!1!!!11!"

It's only July--man, it seems like the War on Christmas season starts earlier every year. I remember the days when it didn't get fully under way until right after Thanksgiving! Good times, good times.

I always thought "Peace on earth" was a generic holiday sentiment, too. Who knew?

9. I read the op
and in the first paragraph Mr Falwell told two lies, at that point on he lost his credibility, IMO. I guess that Mr Falwell doesn't know that he can go to hell for lying just as sure as someone can for getting an abortion, if one believes all that crap the religious Reich spews.
