NBC Nightly News: Pakistan Now #1 Foreign Policy Problem for U.S.: Dangerous Situation: Musharraf
may not survive his presidency, and if it becomes unstable, there's the chance pakistan's nukes will fall into the hands of terrorists. The news made it sound very ominous.

Richard Haas, President of Council on Foreign Relations:
"Pakistan has become a safe haven for Al Qaida...it has several dozen nuclear weapons...there's lots of reasons Pakistan could become a nightmare for us, the loss of political control...we're beginning to see the beginning of the end of Musharraf, he's lost a tremendous amount of face...this is the single toughtest foreign policy problem for the united states, tougher than Iraq."

had his sentence commuted. Both involved in IranContra and BCCI - Libby as a legal fixer for BushInc and protecting assets like Marc Rich.

3. While there is certainly a "chance", I don't regard it as that high.
And the reason is the army, the most stable institution in the entire country. (Shades of Turkey here.) Politically speaking, if Musharraf goes down there's a lot of instability possible. Militarily speaking - and it's the military that controls the nukes - the army is not interested in taking orders from religious lunatics. Musharraf is only one man. The army is not. It is an army. Lots of officers of all ranks. Assassins won't kill them all.

6. The Mid East is unbelievably scary these days. US should leave
Iraq and concentrate on bin Laden, Afghanistan, Pakistan and peace for Israel/Palestine.

7. It's just a matter of time before we have OPF
Operation Pakistani Freedom. We'll be watching the names of our young heroes scrolling by as their lives get wasted in another disaster made possible by Bush's incompetence and Cheney's treachery.
