Woman raped before "honor killing": court
LONDON (Reuters) - A Kurdish woman was brutally raped, stamped on and strangled by members of her family and their friends in an "honor killing" carried out at her London home because she had fallen in love with the wrong man.

Banaz Mahmod, 20, was subjected to the 2-1/2 hour ordeal before she was garroted with a bootlace. Her body was stuffed into a suitcase and taken about 100 miles to Birmingham where it was buried in the back garden of a house.

Her badly decomposed body was found in April 2006, three months after the killing.

Last month a jury found her father Mahmod Mahmod, 52, and his brother Ari Mahmod, 51, guilty of murder after a three-month trial. Their associate Mohamad Hama, 30, had earlier admitted killing her.

2. What cowardly bastards. If they think these honor killings are so
damn well deserved, while they're here in the West why don't they do it out in the open like they barbarically do back home?

No, they're cowards. They kill then they hide the body.

3. With all due respect for culture...
Certain elements of various cultures need to be eliminated. Acts which result in the death, mutilation, or psychological trauma of others should neither be allowed nor sanctioned.

It's time to evolve, dammit.

16. Certainly, that's the way we view it; however...
the excuse usually given is that "despicable" acts like this are a part of a culture, or even more effective, a religion.

Sorry to say, but it's true. Sorrier still is the fact that people can get away with barbaric behavior by using these arguments.

11. According to some students of the Koran
it is thought that virgins should never be executed. So the virginity is eliminated before the sentence can be carried out.

Sharia law in Iran: Girls condemned to death may not undergo the sentence as long as they are virgins.

14. they used to do that in ancient Rome, too
killing a virgin was deemed bad luck, so virgins had to be raped before they were murdered.

5. humans will accept anything and use any excuse
humans are more fundamentally cruel and evil than they are good

you have to teach children to respect others, respect property rights, "play nice"
left to their own devices, kids get a kick out of pulling the wings off of flies. Or blowing up frogs.

a society that decides 'honor killings' or throwing virgins into volcanoes or any of a number of other brutal behaviors is ok then raises people perfectly comfortable with those practices.

cockfighting, bullfighting, dogfighting...

humans are fundamentally inhumane.

and yet there are those who:

1)claim there is a god, and
2)claim that humans are created in its image

humans are a pox on the planet.

we are to the earth what ecoli is to us

7. I'd like to know why they believe that committing 3 dishonorable and evil
acts are a just punishment for 'falling in love with the wrong person'. Why do they have to control women so thoroughly that even thinking or feeling are to be punished by death.
PS. I hope they get to hell and someone tells them why they are there

15. Note that she was raped by members of her own family--not just killed.
Apparently they decided to live out their sick incestuous impulses first. This wasn't an "honor killing"--this was an excuse to behave like depraved animals.
