Dear fellow DU'ers. While YOU Were Bullshitting
Snickers ads, crazy astronauts, and such are seperating us from the number one message. END THE WAR.

The Senate and House are bogged down in debating votes on nonbinding resolutions about an escalation that HAS ALREADY BEGUN.

THE IRANIAN WAR IS COMING. We now have carrier groups in the region and we are trying to pick a fight with them by kidnapping their diplomats and accusing them of attacking us.

Bush's puppet Blair is under such attack at home for illegal dealings that are threatening to run him out of office that he has had to scare eveyone with two little letter bombs over the past few days along with a "story" about terrorists kidnapping a soldier to cut his head off. None of their recent terror arrests has led to the conviction of anyone. It's all propaganda.

Keep living your life, enjoy the distractions, but dont blame me when you wake up soon to see a nuclear war and the downfall of life as we know it.

Call me crazy, flame me, but at least wake up and think for yourself.

We're talking about destruction of the ENTIRE WORLD compared to a few million people killed.

Last week called. It wants its "Ending the War" issue back.

10. Wars waste more energy than SUV's, for starters.
Troop transport
Vehicle transport
transport of logistical supplies
destruction of trees
destruction of homes that need to be rebuilt (more wasted energy)

Might be a shorter list if we come up with ways that wars DON'T affect global warming.

There's a new, large thread abusing Mrs Edwards because she hasn't changed out all the lightbulbs yet!

2. Do you mind if we use the "bullshit"
Edited on Tue Feb-06-07 01:16 PM by redqueen
to keep ourselves from getting too stressed out over the possibilites re: "unending war" and other ugly possibilities?

I know I, for one, am able to multitask - enjoy some "bullshit" in between and amongst calls to Congress, reaching out to others for help with the same, etc.

If you're not, well I'm sorry... perhaps you should ignore some threads.

As for me, focusing ONLY on activism tends to steer me quickly towards burnout.

4. EVERYONE STOP AND PAY ATTENTION TO MY ISSUE!!!
My top issue is FAR more important than your top issue and you're all idiots for thinking otherwise!! :sarcasm:

You make it seem like no one is talking about the war at all. Quite frankly, it's still a pretty dominant issue. But I'll be damned if it's the ONLY thing we talk about around here. We have a nation falling apart at the seams, and Iraq is far and away not the only reason why.

20. But I don't think anyone forgot or anything.
We've been on this same drumbeat for about 5 years now. Considering that, I'd say we're still pretty damn focused on the war.

It just can't be the only thing we talk about. We have a ton of other problems that we need to deal with that deserve as much, and probably more attention than the war does.

Like the budget, for example. That's a fucking disaster.

Or global warming, which, you know, can kill us all eventually.

Or education and global competitiveness.

We can't be one-trick ponies. I am not merely an anti-war person. No single issue should overwhelm the debate. All of which is to say that your brief mentioning was ill-needed.

It's like telling a dog that it should be more focused on trying to eat things. Just because it's playing with its ball right now, that doesn't mean consuming everything that's edible and within reach isn't still its top priority.

25. Here, start a campaign get everyone to send to to their Congress Critters

U.S. military: Iraqi lawmaker is U.S. Embassy bomber

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A man sentenced to death in Kuwait for the 1983 bombings of the U.S. and French embassies now sits in Iraq's parliament as a member of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's ruling coalition, according to U.S. military intelligence.

Jamal Jafaar Mohammed's seat in parliament gives him immunity from prosecution. Washington says he supports Shiite insurgents and acts as an Iranian agent in Iraq.

-snip-

more at http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/meast/02/05/iraq.lawmaker/index.html

Under this crazy administration that Congress won't stand up to, we have put folks in power who include "a man sentenced to death for the 1983 bombings of US & French embassies"

Our men are dying and we are sending more over there to fight to defend a government that harbors and counts as one of it's own, a terrorist that attacked our embassy and has been convicted of the crime.

We need to give them reason to not fund the escalation and to oppose this war, what better reason is that this administration supports a goverment that harbors a convicted TERRORIST?

Folks need to just find every reason imaginable to justify Congress not supporting Bush's escalation and the war.

How Dare this administration expect our brave soldiers risk death or die to defend a goverment that harbors and calls one of it's own a convicted terrorist?

This is an outrage and an outrage that just might give our wishy washy dems the footing they so need to stand up to the escalation.

35.  I see where you are coming from .
Everyone handles issues differently , personally I have put to much thought into the dangers we face both with Iraq and now Iran including the state of the economy right here in the good OLD USA as well as the ignorence and lack of support the people suffering in New Orleans and the Miss gulf coast endure daily .

In doing so I have become stressed out and torn apart by all of this .

Issues such as some cartoon figure placed in 9 cities or anything tv has to offer are not even on my mental list of things to think about .

All the screwing around in the senate with their grand personal speeches is insane while people in this lied into war are dying hourly and each day .

When I place myself in anyone of the about mentioned situations , in my mind all else remains out of mind , they are certainly thinking about this and not multi-tasking unless this defines trying to stay alive while bombs and bullets are zooming by while trying to load a rifle .

It's easy to drift and avoid when one is not in immediate danger as these people are and they depend on us to get them through this and out of this mess alive .

45. The war sucks but there are more issues out there than the war
There's lots of shit going on outside of the war and if we can't multitask, then should we just forget about all the other issues?

Call me crazy for being a gay person and not liking the degeneration of a population of the US who are considered to be fodder for a laugh or worse yet violence in words and physically. If we can't count on our Democratic brothers and sisters for support on this topic, then are we to turn to the Republican party or Independents?

If it's too much for some people to be concerned with more than one issue, then fine, focus on your issue but some of us have other issues we're equally concerned about and don't say our issue is less important than yours because gay people are dying all the time and once the war stops, gay people will continue to die and be ridiculed.

We really are an ADD society. I feel guilty but sometimes can't resist the BS stuff. The articulate mountain climbers and their lite brites and the time Kerry said that dumb thing which I don't even remember now, but he should have had a Snicker's bar with Joe Biden. I also love Chimpy/Pickles caption threads or threads talking about something the freepers said. This is a vice, I know.

People are dying overseas and it is so far away and too easy for us to forget about in the midst of day to day stuff, and that is what the PNAC has probably always counted on.

55. Yes there are all sorts of issues , many deadly issues
Sure it's not just the war . As one poster said there is AIDs , a very long term ignored issue . My wifes brother died in 1992 of AIDs and a few of our friends have as well .

There is poverty and starvation , homelessness and drug issues and noe are personal choices .

The only ones it seems who have good news are those living with wealth .

But just what does anyone here think allows all of this to continue , our government and our elected officials are the ones who keep this runaway locomotive fueled and towing all the cars filled with horror going .

Now we still have a group of officials bending and swaying who put most of their efforts into maintaining their political positions and future careers .

Sure we voted in the dems and many elections were still stolen and we just don't have enough of the senate in our control .

I suppose now is the time for the people to begin to risk it all to take back our country and kill the corporations , I see no other way other than to sit still and hope and wait and this may be a huge mistake .
