Privette suspended as president of Christian Action League
July 19, 2007 20:10 EDT

SALISBURY, N.C. (AP) -- Coy Privette has been suspended from the presidency of the Christian Action League following his arrest for aiding and abetting prostitution.

The Reverend Mark Creech is the league's executive director. He says the group hasn't been able to reach Privette, and because the league is committed to the principle of due process, the board of directors decided to suspend Privette.

The Reverend David Hansley of Kinston will take over as president. Hansley was the league's vice president.

The S-B-I says the 74-year-old Privette is facing six counts of misdemeanor aiding and abetting prostitution by renting a hotel room and paying for sexual acts.

Fellow commissioners had not heard from Privette as of Thursday evening. He initially planned to meet with the county manager Thursday afternoon but changed his mind and left town, Chairman Bob Carruth said.

There is no law requiring a public official who's charged with a crime to resign. If Privette stepped down, a replacement would be chosen by the county's Republican Party, officials said.

"Just as his pastor, I'm trying to reach out to him and his wife and let him know we still love him," Prather said.

1. Sounds like Privette got some "Christian Action" of his own.
Are there Christian leaders who are not criminals, hypocrites, or perverts? There must be. Where are they?

2. They are "committed to due process"!!!!
Bubba, you can't find "due process" in either the old or the new testament. Suddenly they are concerned about something that would underscore the separation of church and state? A zap from the blue perhaps, or how about turning him into a pillar of salt. They want due process in the theocracy they are seeking to create? I thought we were a Christian nation.

5. Okay, I can't believe the stupidity of some people.....
"Eyewitness News spoke with Privette’s wife, who would only say she was shocked by the charges.

Summers, the alleged prostitute, told Eyewitness News what she did in the past is behind her, and she has a new life.

Police said officers were investigating a forged check case, which led them to the prostitution charges. Privette on two occasions allegedly paid the prostitute with checks then reported those checks as stolen, officials said."

Paid with checks??? Paid with checks??? Did she require some form of ID to assure she has a legal recourse in case the check bounced??? Maybe he should have used a debit card.....

10. And former Republican state legislator
Funny how many of these stories are not using the "R" word.

Privette, a Republican, has been one of the state’s most vocal opponents of alcohol sales and legal gambling. He has been a member of the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners since 1998 and was a member of the N.C. House from 1984 to 1992.
