I honestly don’t know what to think about the CNN Larry/Tammy interview.
It is all so surreal. And yet my heart does go out to her and her family. WTF is wrong with me?

Is anybody else watching?

1. I saw a short clip. I cannot figure out why, but I actually felt sorry for her.
I normally hate the enemy endlessly (comes from my background).

But, damn, I felt sorry for that woman when I saw her on teevee tonight.

And I was glad when I heard that she had cancer (and I always hate the enemy).

Poor woman.

Bad actress.

I used to stay up late and watch Swaggert, Jan and Paul, Jim and Tammy, and the one-and-only Dr. Gene Scott and spend a gazillion dollars on bad shit.

2. I thought it was horrific
and ghoulish - it felt indecent to watch.
She weighs less than 60 lbs. and I don't know
how she's actually staying alive. I think it was
wrong for Larry King to put her on, even if
she wanted to do so. It was painful, even
for the two shocked seconds before I
switched the channel.

6. It was ghoulish. Most of that might have been by design.
Edited on Fri Jul-20-07 12:00 AM by countmyvote4real
First of all, Larry King is ghoulish. (That's not the "by design" part.) And you go from that character interviewing another "extreme" icon basically on her deathbed. And yet, it was not promoted as the last or final interview with Tammy Faye. At least not yet a LK esclusive.

Anyway, the really ghoulish part was the book-selling. Maybe that's the "go with what you know" schtick.

I tuned in for a train wreck and boy did I get one. It's just sad.

3. Tammy's brain is so cooked and fuzzy that she no longer qualifies
as completely human-if she ever did. Larry is a lightweight, no matter the power and position of guests who appear on his show. With Tammy, he's in his element.

Feeling sorry for such a chimera is perfectly in tune with human and says a lot more for the posters here than anything else. It's one of the primary reasons we are not republlicans--we could feel sorry for the worst of the worst. Not while the worst is doing the awful things they do, but for the victim act they play that brings them to their nastiness.

Oh, and I don't watch either of them.

Bakker Ministries era.

It is so sad, yet she went on tv and let EVERYONE see the real Tammy Faye tonight.

She has some courage.

Maybe that is why her son Jay is doing so well with his ministry.

Coming from an athiest/agnostic point of view, Jay Bakker does have a gift, a gift to motivate in a positive way, hopefully he won't live out his dream like his parents or Jimmy Swaggart or a Ted Haggard.

5. Bet he asked asinine questions and made stupid non sequitur comments
I saw a brief clip of it - but I kinda felt sorry for her too - then I remembered all the lowlife shit she and jim Baker used to pull.

Still, unlike bush, cheney and michael vick she is a human being and even though karma is a bitch, I hope her suffering doesn't last much longer.

7. I think that Michael Vick reached the Dick Cheney
pinnacle this week, I now feel a chill when I hear his name.

I hope the NFL makes him leave the league (NO MORE CONTRACT AT ALL). C'mon NFL, you can't save your VETS, you know the ones with spinal cord injuries and various motor and limb problems, but get rid of this guy.

And I was one of those who used to pick Michael for Fantasy Football teams.

8. After seeing the documentary "The Eyes of Tammy Faye" I had a
completely different perspective on her. I sincerely like her. She's not one of the hate the gays, hate everyone who doesn't believe like she believes types. I think that she turned out to be a decent human being. She wanted to go on LK tonight I think to kind of say farwell...

10. Caricatures.....
Edited on Fri Jul-20-07 12:13 AM by Mind_your_head
Larry King and Tammy Faye are both caricatures of real people.

Some years ago, people used to talk about how children couldn't distinguish the difference between 'reality' and 'tv'. Now those same 'children' have grown up and they (we) STILL don't distinguish the difference between TV & 'reality'.

If you don't believe me, just look at how much you/we 'depend' upon TV to tell us what to think and what is 'popular'.....practically every post HERE references some TV show/figure.

What the h*ll did people *do*/communicate before TV???
-------
Back to the subject, I suggest that while you may feel sympathy for Tammy Faye as an individual, you can forgive - BUT NOT FORGET -the DAMAGE that she & her former husband have wrought! (which is a healthy attitude, imho).

(And she HAS in the past and STILL DOES look like a caricature of a 'real person' - your senses aren't deceiving you on that.)

Peace,
M_Y_H

12. Before TEEVEE people had myths, the Bible and books from other faiths,
literature, theater, oral traditions--fiction--which by the way wasn't "real" either.

13. Metaphors, parables DO point to 'reality', don't they......
That's their hidden purpose.

16. despite that, people seem to have problems discerning between reality
and say, The Bible.

There's perhaps a hidden purpose in every life. Even a life that presents itself as a caricature on TEEVEE.

Maybe.

"teevee jazz hands" was a hammer on the head moment for me. What was I thinking?

17. I watched the short segment they had on yesterday
and had to skip it tonight - it was too heartbreaking to see.

Tammy Faye wasn't the enemy. Her husband was a big jerk, though, but she held no malice.

I don't think it was exploitative to have her on. She's long been friends with Larry King and I think she wanted one last chance to say goodbye to all her fans.
