According to Tweety, Rudy Giuliani has 'street cred' on fighting terrorism
Edited on Tue Feb-06-07 12:16 PM by ck4829
On the February 5 edition of MSNBC Live, in a discussion of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani's (R) plans to file a "statement of candidacy" for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination, Hardball host Chris Matthews declared that Giuliani "has street cred" on the issue of "protect(ing) this country against the bad guys," citing "the image (Giuliani) conveys," and later praised Giuliani's 2004 Republican National Convention speech as "the great speech that everybody remembered."

THAT speech, of course, tied Iraq to 9/11 (And all Iraq-9/11 links have been so far debunked):

"And it was here in 2001, in the same lower Manhattan, that President George W. Bush stood amid the fallen towers of the World Trade Center, and he said to the barbaric terrorists who attacked us, 'They will hear from us.' Well, they heard from us. They heard from us in Afghanistan, and we removed the Taliban. They heard from us... They heard from us in Iraq, and we ended Saddam Hussein's reign of terror. ... So long -- so long as George Bush is our president, is there any doubt they will continue to hear from us until we defeat global terrorism? We owe that much and more to the loved ones and heroes that we lost on September 11th."

2. Oh, really..........
Interesting.

A certain member of my family informs me that if Giuliani is going to visit here, she's going to take the first train out of town. She seems to feel that the man brings terrorist attacks with him......and I can't deny the possibility with any credibility.

3. All he did was walk through the rubble with a dust mask on
How does that qualify him to be president?

9. the guy has done nothing but cash in on 9/11
which came three months before the end of his term. What has he done in the last five and a half years? What makes a man who was at best a controversial Mayor think he should be president of the US? Have we ever had someone go from a Mayor to President? Why is he thought of as a credible candidate by the media where some people think that Obama isn't?

21. This is an interesting twist I hadn't heard before
Can you elaborate a bit? Did he really go against advice not to put his command center there, and was it because of the possibility of terrorism that people advised against it?
I'm curious because I've never heard that and I've paid attention to his shameless self-promotion and the tons of money-making opportunities to which Rudy has availed himself for his presumed 9/11 heroism. His security consulting business makes big bucks, and there was a long period of time that he kept a death grip on the private funds donated to the city and the families of the victims in order to line his pockets and give out jobs to his cronies. I knew his business dealings were an issue in his campaign, but this info is something that could damage his "security credentials."

I've always been curious as to why he is branded a hero for what he did on September 11th. He did what was required of him, which was get his ass in gear and assess the situation - maybe compared to the Chimp's dismal performance that day he seemed "in charge", but all he did was drive downtown and try to find out what was happening. He shouldn't be Knighted by the Queen and revered by the nation for doing what anyone else would have done.

I hope he gets whacked with this blunder in the primaries by other repugs. If that's what you call "expertise" in security, then we'd be better off with a bunch of rent-a-cops pulling shift work at the WH rather than having Rudy anywhere near the Situation Room or answering to the title of Commander-in-Chief!

22. IIRC
There was a worry that putting your emergency center in a known terrorist target along with a metric buttload
of emergency diesel fuel in a storage tank *within the building number 7* was a sub optimal design.

Again, if I remember correctly, Rudi got his way and the bunker/fuel air bomb was built so that he could have a close walk to be there.
Yeah, ol Rudi was right out front being brave as they brought down the emergency center with the building. He just had to blow up his own emergency office.
Sounds like a profile in courage to me.

12. IIRC, the towers collapsed, 3000 people died, the emergency phones did not work,
people were told to stay in their offices, emergency crews were not evacuated, and the rescue workers were all exposed to godknowswhat which was hidden from them, all on his watch.

I would call that a bad day. But if you march down the street with your minions all around you, you get to be a hero.

18. Ater reading all these posts
which are good, by the way, how will you get this information
to voters in red states and many voters in blue states?

I am only saying we often sing to our own choir but
the information does not get out across the country.
Just a question that is all??

and start jailing the criminally negligent.

THat alone takes a significant bite out of their
dessert.

I think we need to start posting Giuliani/Bremer and Giuliani/Brownie 08 billboards
across the interstates of red america.
