Anyone know what time, or which C-SPAN channel might be covering it?

1. sorry I'll miss it. IMO, deregulation is the key not a 'fairness doctrine' that'll come back to
bite us in the ass.

That and regulations on what shows can get legitimately called 'news'.

5. Revising Telcom '96
This was supposed to have been done in 2002...this bill made it possible for large corporations to scoop up large numbers of stations that they, in turn, turned into satellite earth stations for their own networks...driving out local ownership, voices and public control/access to the airwaves.

The Fairness Doctrine never applied to cable and its affect on broadcasting was only to Public Affairs and News programs, not the "Entertainment" Programs such as Rushbo. Ownership limits must be restored, preferences to local owners in license applications and challenges, shorter licensing periods with some of the old standards and easier and shorter ways for local groups to challenge licenses. This bill is long overdue for revision!

3. Crap. I was looking forward to hearing her say, "Excuse me, Senator McChinless..."

4. Ms. Miller goes to Washington.
Yea, I know. That was going to be fun.

7. I like Elaine Boozler, but she's not very good at radio.
Edited on Thu Jul-19-07 07:42 AM by IanDB1
She needs someone to research stuff for her, so she doesn't make stupid mistakes and give out incorrect information all the time.

Otherwise, she's still fairly entertaining.

Hopefully, Reverend Dan will call her today, and liven up the show a little.

(BTW... I think "Rev. Dan" is the caller "Mike" from "Panama City", who might actually be Mike Judge from "King of the Hill.")

16. What they SHOULD do is let Jim or Chris be the host, and put Rebecca in the booth.
I still think Rebecca has the best voice in the radio business.

11. The Tune Inn is still in operation on the Hill? I remember that place
from the early 80s when I worked on the Hill. I only went there once but I noticed they had a list on the wall of the prices of Single and Double shots of liquor. I think they were trying hard to be a saloon. I like Hawk and Dove for lunch instead. Everybody there was a Hill staffer, it seems. Whatever major bill was reaching the floor would be THE subject of conversation at every table. Company Town indeed!

12. Hawk and Dove is all wealthy interns after 5pm. But, yes, better for lunch.
Tune Inn was Janet Reno's bar of choice. It is where "men go to get strong drink to get drunk fast." There's an autographed picture of the Old Girl on the wall now.

The chili and cheese omlette is great.

I was in political polling, so I couldn't have a conversation about work anywhere during lunch whether it be H&D, Mr. Henry's, Bullfeathers, whatever.

I think Tune Inn is Steph's kind of place. It's very 'Buffalo' NY.

18. Years & YEARS ago, when I was 17, I went to a Country Western bar in DC...
Edited on Thu Jul-19-07 12:14 PM by IanDB1
... with a girl I had met on the internet.

She was a beautiful Punk Rock girl with a huge mohawk, torn clothing... you probably remember the look.

At the time, I was going through a Country & Western music phase (they still had WKHK "Hit-Kicking Country Music" playing out of New York).

Anyway, we walked into the place and got a whole lot of very strange looks.

"You don't understand," she tells me, "people like this beat-up people like me ALL the time!"

Anyway, I put a couple bucks into the jukebox, selected some Alabama, George Jones, Earl Thomas Connoly... ordered their "famous" beer-battered onion rings, and we had a good time with no hassles.

The next night, I got food poisoning from the restaurant where the waiters wear rollerskates.

13. It's not a Congressional Hearing . . . .
She said a number of times yesterday that she is going to "testify" before Democratic Senators.

It sounds like the Dem Senators want to get some information from the progressive side of radio before they launch into it publicly.

The progressive talkers I've heard (Thom Hartmann and Stephanie, for two) don't want the Fairness Doctrine returned.

They are more interested in addressing the monopoly-like domination of markets by the same two or three companies, and how they freeze out progressive talk in spite of good ratings in those particular markets.

Disclaimer: I wrote this without any coffee, so hoping it makes sense. :)

15. Thank you for clearing that up. Like I said, I'm two days behind on my StepCasts.
Hopefully, if this goes well, they might eventually call Steph to testify in front of Congress.

I bet she would do for Freedom of the Airwaves what Mister Rogers did for PBS.

I also hope Stephanie stays away from the egg salad during her lunch, and does not eat anything Dennis Kucinich offers her.

and she should be on about 12:45 p.m. But I don't know if C-SPAN is covering it.

17. Doesn't look like CSPAN's got it up
...at least not live. Their posted schedule looks a little sparse today LOL! http://inside.c-spanarchives.org:8080/cspan/schedule.csp

Maybe they'll have a re-air later today.
