The Rightwing and Their Comedy Problem
A great little post over at Crooks and Liars. Cute. They are frustrated that they cannot do Daily Show style comedy for them. uh-huh....

The Problem Is Right Wingers Are Just Too Nice

*snicker* No, really. *snort*

Okay, I give up. I can't even believe I had to type that title. I'll let Steve @ Carpetbagger give you the rest:

Townhall's Doug Giles noted in his newest column that when it comes to comedy, "Mr. and Mrs. Conservative, you must bow and kiss the Left's ring. They slay us. You can count on one hand how many conservatives are making a semi-distinct blip on the comedic scene." In the kind of piece one can only find at Townhall, Giles explores why the left is funnier than the right.

Why can't conservatives get their comedic act together? The liberals, on a 24/7 basis, are tossing us soft balls that we should be driving out of the park in a humorous, prime time, way. It's so easy it's stupid. All we have to do is just read the crap that the left does, out loud, and it's hilarious. We don't even have to be that imaginative and try to develop quips, as they provide an endless supply of ammunition. We couldn't make up the stuff they do even if we wanted to - no one on the planet is that creative.

The secular left is an amalgam of mayhem, a veritable Star Wars bar scene, a rogue gallery of freaks, geeks, nuts, sluts, slick politco's and skanky ho's - and we're letting them walk without skewering the living day lights out of them.

What's wrong with us? We've become nicer than Christ.

Um, yeah. This is nice and hilarious. And this is near-Christlike. This is good for some belly laughs. And who could forget this Mother of All Conservative Jokes? That's right, Doug, you wingnuts are damn near walking on water.

1. No, it's cuz us "freaks, geeks, nuts, sluts, slick politco's and skanky ho's " have you figured out
You're the subject of ridicule because you're ridiculous, not because you're nice.

But that was a funny one. Mind if I use it?

3. I hear them say "Liberals have no sense of humor"
What - because I didn't laugh at the racist, sexist, idiotic joke?

What else should we expect from people who think Mallard Fillmore is hysterical?

"freaks, geeks, nuts, sluts, slick politco's and skanky ho's"?

7. Sarcasm takes a holiday with the right-wingers.
To quote Bill Hicks - "That's what fundamentalism breeds - no irony."

Apparently, these people are too busy making jokes of themselves, which distracts themselves from making jokes about others.

9. I HOPE they get some comedic sense, to be frank...
...it would mean one thing: They've become able to laugh at themselves. But if they did this, that would entail accepting some things, like human differences and frailty...Because in laughter is acceptance. But if they did that, the philosophy of many conservatives wouldn't hold. Once you've come to accept people in their wierdness and imperfections, some of the "personal responsibility" stuff doesn't quite stick.

and childish.
Oh, and racist, misogynistic, and xenophobic.

13. It's truly bizarre - when people become conservative they lose their sense of humor
It's like switching off a light. Dennis Miller is a good example.

15. Hey, what happened to Fox's answer to TDS?
Wasn't the conservative comedy show supposed to air a couple of episodes in January? And Rush and Ann Coulter did guest spots? Rush was on record saying it was "hilarious". If the shows did air, they sure didn't create much buzz. Or did Faux get cold feet?
I know P.J. O'?Rourke considers himself a wit. But he's the only one laughing. Who else? Drew Carey? Dennis Miller? Colin Quinn? How about Dana Carvey? Yes. We're under-whelmed. Not exactly in the league with Robin Williams. D H Hughley. Chris Rock. Ellen DeGeneres. Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert.
Conservatives are not funny. I think the missing ingredient is intelligence.

16. Here's your problem:
Good comedy is about the truth.

Conservatism is based on lies.

Do the math.

22. Exactly. Look at any George Carlin skit from the last 40 years, and

see if there isn't always some grounding in truth. Then try to listen to anything Dennis Miller has done since his HBO days. I'm not wanting to pick on Dennis Miller, he's the only RW comedian I can think of, and I don't count Limbaugh since he's not deliberately trying to be a comedian.

17. Genuine wit requires intelligence.
Hateful bluster and grade-school-level attacks just aren't funny. I am looking forward to watching Fox Noise fall on its face as it tries to be "amusing".

There is a reason why funny, smart people usually turn out to be liberal.

try to say "Hey, take it easy ... I'm just an entertainer!"

.... not at all. rush is nice? beck is nice? coulter is nice?

You people are delusional. Your party is not "nice", but your delusional antics are easy to make good comedy out of. Yes, you are tragically funny.

I knew the minute I read about a "right" Daily Show that it would either never happen or it wouldn't last long. You guys are the clowns, but you aren't funny.
