Ex-Rep. Katherine Harris still parking car in House building

Roll Call's 'Heard on the Hill' column reports that former Rep. Katherine Harris (R-FL) is still parking her car in a Congressional building.

Following up on the story of Harris handing out business cards at President Bush's recent State of the Union speech, Ben Pershing writes that "he still doesn't know quite what Harris has been up to since her highly enjoyable tenure in Congress ended, and he couldn't reach her for comment for this item. But at least he can report where her car is."

The article says 'Heard on the Hill' was tipped that "Harris still parks her $100,000 BMW convertible in the Cannon parking garage."

Pershing asserts that "he can confirm that the ex-lawmaker has indeed been parking it regularly since she lost her day job. The car was there Friday evening, in the same spot where she always parked when she actually worked in that building."

The way Harris sees it, a vast left- and right-wing conspiracy, encompassing both the "liberal media" and the Republican "elite," is attempting to keep her out of the Senate. She says anyone could see the way the panel of questioners coddled Nelson at their debate last week. Her voice gets all high and mocking as she imitates them.

As far as her parking in a House garage, that's a no-no. She's no longer a Member of Congress, and her parking privileges should've been revoked her last day in office.

I believe the responsibility of issuing and revoking House parking permits resides with the U.S. Capitol Police. They need to pull hers.

She's no longer a Member of Congress, and isn't entitled to use whatever House building parking garage that car's being parked in (I'm assuming that it's the Longworth Building).

Then again, if she parks a $300,000 automobile in front of a meter, it would be in a "chop shop" in Southeast D.C. before she put in the last quarter, LOL.

Harris needs to find a public garage to park that baby in. There's plenty of 'em in D.C. She won't have much of a problem.
