I remember how several of you turned on Fitzgerald.
"Fitzmas is a BUST" you said.

I also remember how several of you turned on Truthout/Jason Leopold.

Ha!!!

82. VERY ugly
First time I ever used the "ignore" feature, in fact. I got over it, and removed people from ignore, but damn, I couldn't believe some of the downright evil posts.

Patience is a good thing to have, and it's going to be so much fun to watch these guys turning on each other!

33. last minute deal after he was indicted?

Leopold was unambiguous in his claim: Rove was indicted by the grand jury and, on May 12, served with a copy of that indictment and given "24 business hours to get his affairs in order".

You still think that was true? If so, and the indictment was quashed or dismissed as part of a deal with Rove, what do you think Fitz got in return?

60. That, too, is an assumption, imo
We don't know whether Cheney used e-mail or not, I haven't heard or read anything that specifies that he does not use e-mail as opposed to bush who expressly stated he didn't use e-mail not because he couldn't but because he knew it leaves a trail.

I guess we will find out whether it is a paper trail, an electronic trail or a witness testifying to the original existence of the document only when it, whatever it is, is introduced as evidence or the witness testifies to it's existence.

However Fitzgerald discovered it's existence, there is NO doubt in my mind he has the necessary hard evidence to prove it.

"deleted" by Libby, and subsequently denied during the GJ investigation.

Except electronic communications are much more difficult to destroy than a paper note. Oopsie.

62. Here's what Fitz said (or what firedoglake is reporting Fitz said)
"VP notes–Libby knew that note was in his file. But he wiped it out."

"Wiped out" is an odd way to describe destroying a paper note, but a common way to describe deleting an electronic communication or file.

91. Johnathan Alter is on Franken right now and said, re this issue...
Edited on Tue Jan-23-07 02:55 PM by Spazito
he thinks, due to the use of the term "wiped out", it most likely refers to it being something dictated by Cheney to a clerical assistant (my term, not Johnathan's, he could have used secretary, I am not sure) who, in turn, transcribed the contents onto the computer and sent it to Libby.

This would say Alter is in agreement with Tin Man re the connotation of the phrase "wiped out".

Edited to correct a typo, belatedly discovered.

like this note that Libby destroyed, that had to come from someone on the inside.

I could be wrong about it coming from Rove, but this info had to come from someone on the inside that's cooperating with the prosecution. Of course, there may be a number of people, including Rove, that are cooperating.

We know Fitzgerald well, and love him! One thing he absolutely is NOT is political. Don't let the media fool you into thinking that he is. He in no way resembles Ken Starr. It was a huge surprise that he was appointed.

I don't know how it will all end up, but I'd put my money on Fitzgerald in a heartbeat every time.

As to Leopold, I still don't think he lied or made up the story.

A cabal of Bush sycophants who have been proven to be liars over and over again, or a reporter who may have reported something in error, but whose work by and large has stood up as factual and truthful.

The answer as to who the real liars are here is pretty obvious to me. I too am not passing judgement until the outcome of this becomes clear. Right now we don't have the whole story, but I'm pretty sure Rove and Libby et al will be shown to be guilty as charged.

40. Many of those who were posting tripe about Fitzgerald appear to be gone now
You'd see the baited thread every once in awhile "what ever happened to Fitzmas" by some new person who wasn't even a member here at that time. Oddly, these people seem to be MIA now.

41. Yep, it seems, from the Libby defense opening statement,
Karl Rove was the bad guy not poor, little "Scooter", roflmao. That can only mean Rove struck a deal with the government to save his sorry ass and the Libby defense is going to try and paint a target on him and impeach his testimony.

I alway believed Leopold's report on Rove and felt that Rove made a last minute deal and still believe it. The repeated finger pointing to Rove in the defense opening statement only strengthens that belief.

42. I never went after Truthout, Leopold, or Will Pitt.
For some reason, I am immune to things like jeering, bullying, and DU "clique" politics.

The crowd that carried out these incessant smears are the usual suspects. Always telling the rest of DU how much smarter they are about.....well....everything.

Go get 'em, Fitz.

76. Better yet, what "do" they?
:) You're linking together two seperate people, two seperate events, as if one vindicates the other. It does not. Fitzgerald might well come through on indicting more people - I've always thought that Cheney was his real target, and his MO is to get the little guys to implicate the big guys. But that doesn't change the fact that the Leopold story was wrong when it was published, and is still wrong today. Rove was not indicted in May 2006. So, I'm a little perplexed as to why people should apologize for thinking a story was wrong, when it was in fact wrong.

80. 1. 2 separate people; same case
2.2 separate events; same case.

It was said Fitz wasn't going to indict anyone. He did. He indicted 2 separate people in the same case.

Rove made a deal at the 11th hour.

scroll up.

Edited on Tue Jan-23-07 02:35 PM by Marie26
So, should people apologize for saying it wasn't right? No. BTW, Fitzgerald has not indicted 2 seperate people, only one - Libby. The person who claimed upthread that Rove "made a deal" at the last minute never provided a link for that claim.

Common practice among fishermen and prosecutors...

Oh yeah, prosecutors do that all the time. That's why Fitz cut a deal w/the Illinois governor in order to prosecute a low-level mob guy instead. Or was it the opposite?

I wasn't too keen on this Fitzmas business I just played along. But the man is good at what he does. He's awesome. He's tenacious. He's relentless. He's the ultimate prosecutor. He's as independent as they come. I could go on and on about him but my fingers would fall off from the typing. :loveya:

Remember 5th floor, all day meeting, Secret Service, locked room, May 12th?

107. My high expectation euphoria DU days are over
And Liepold was a part of that. (and I miss Fitzmas but it's too little too late-in my book-we need more than a little time in prison for Scooter that is almost in the end meaningless to the whole thing-he's not the point!)
Until these cretins are actually out of (namely Bush, Cheney and Gonzalez-since they are truly committing crimes against humanity) office, behind bars, or running to Paraguay I won't feel at ease in the least. Nor even excited. I believes it when I actually sees it with my own eyes.
