1. Vioxx?
Isn't Vioxx off the market?

If so, then wouldn't it be rather difficult for Merke to hook anyone on Vioxx?

6. I Read The Link
And it mentioned that Merck had withdrawn Vioxx from the market.

So I'm still confused about how Merck is hooking people to Vioxx.

If it isn't sold, then who is being hooked?

8. FOZAMAX showing up in Dental Patients and Dentists trying to deal with the effects.

Indiana dentists seeing more cases of Fosamax side effects
December 19, 2006
Some dentists in Terre Haute, Indiana are seeing ever more cases of decaying jaw bones, which may be caused by their patients’ use of osteoporosis drugs like Fosamax. Its purpose is to strengthen bones, but it has been proven to have serious Fosamax side effects.

In osteonecrosis of the jaw (known as ONJ), the symptoms can take weeks or months to appear, and they include pain, loose teeth, exposed jawbone in the mouth and drainage. The drugs being linked to it are called bisphosphonates, the most prominent of which is Fosamax. They are typically prescribed for osteoporosis patients in pill form, although Fosamax can be given by IV for patients suffering bone cancer.

The American Dental Association has urged dentists to avoid invasive dental procedures in patients on IV bisphosphonates and to take a conservative approach even with patients using oral bisphosphonates.

Fosamax lawyers have seized on recent data linking Merck’s best-selling osteoporosis drug to ONJ and are advertising to represent ONJ patients who have taken bisphosphonate drugs, whether orally or through an IV.

Fifteen Fosamax lawsuits had been filed against Merck, according to CNNMoney.com. In one case, more than $1 million in damages was being sought.

Of the more than 20 million Americans using oral bisphosphonates, the number of reported cases of ONJ seems still to be in the hundreds or few thousands. As of May 2005, just 800 cases had been reported to the Food and Drug Administration.

10. According to your link, 800 of the 20 million Americans taking
the foxomax type drug have reported this complication, a rate of 0.004%. Once an older person fractures a hip, it is unlikely that they will ever regain full mobility and had a 20% greater risk of dying in the next year than an elderly person who has not broken a hip. What does it take for an elderly person with untreated osteoporosis to break a hip? How about falling from a standing position?

I don't know about you, but I think my odds would be better on the pill than off of it!

12. You lose your teeth and your jaw bone because you take Fozamax
to save you from falling and breaking your hip. The "trade off" is what you say...but folks on Fozamax weren't TOLD that they could have Dental Problems like this because the drug wasn't tested long enough and if folks were told to eat more calcium in their foods and get out in the Sun to get Vitamin D then they might not need Fozamax unless they were gentically predisposed to osteoporosis.

13. That's that they know SO FAR! And, not everyone would be in that
report ...only those who visit a Dentist who would report it or would actually ask the meds a patient is on and make the connection.

11. Wrong. Vaccines are not "discovered". They are developed.
Or created. Or whatever.

They are not out in nature waiting to be tripped over.
