Republican Rep. Exposed Himself to Female Employee, Chased Her Screaming, "Suck It"

Posted by Guest Blogger at 4:41 AM on July 13, 2007.

Howie Klein: Another Republican sex scandal. Rep. David Almond (R-NC) is forced to resign after a "personal complaint" comes to light.

This post, written by Howie Klein, originally appeared on Down With Tyranny!

At least this one, North Carolina Rep. David Almond had the decency to resign almost as soon as word of his inappropriate behavior came out. The North Carolina House Republicans are trying to keep his transgression a secret, but they did force him to resign. An insurance agent, Almond was serving his second term in the House. Impeccable DWT sources tell me he exposed himself in front of a female employee and chased her around the room yelling "Suck it, baby, suck it." It is unclear whether or not there was physical contact. She filed a personnel complaint.

In a one-sentence letter to House Speaker Joe Hackney, the two-term Republican lawmaker from Stanly County immediately resigned his seat representing the 67th House District.

"A complaint has been filed against me with the Speaker. I intend to defend myself against these charges in whatever forum may be appropriate," Almond said in a written statement released by House GOP leaders.

"In the meantime, I have concluded that it is in the best interest of my family and the constituents of my district to resign from the General Assembly."

Hackney said he received "a personnel complaint" involving Almond last week, but said state and federal confidentiality laws bar him from giving any details.

3. she needs to file more than a "personnel complaint"
She needs to file a discrimination and harassment suit. She needs damages--preferably paid from the offender's pocket, not those of the government.

In the farthest stretches of my imagination, I cannot imagine anyone thinking such an action would get him any results:

Almond was serving his second term in the House. Impeccable DWT sources tell me he exposed himself in front of a female employee and chased her around the room yelling "Suck it, baby, suck it."

What is wrong with such a person? And since there is so much wrong, what is he doing serving in such a position in government?!!?

Sure, stuff like the USB Warming Mouse, USB Warming Blanket, and the USB Heating Gloves, are good ideas on paper, but imagine what happens when you get up to answer the phone and forget your knees are still attached to your laptop? – Jason Chen

It comes from living two lives at the same time. One public, the other private. Men and women who live outside the boundary of ethics and morality due to business contacts and networks (and now the convergence with government and politics) live by different rules than we do. They get away with so much corruption. These transgressions are probably common. And if they do get caught, someone is probably there to clean up the mess, and then, guess what? That someone has blackmail information on the person. So, the network becomes even more tighter.

I bet Clarence Thomas got that Supreme Court job this way.

When you have no moral anchor in anything it becomes easy to cross boundaries, including physical boundaries.

This addiction is about domination, needing those little control fixes, getting their narcissist supply--not so much about needing sex. It's perfectly in line with predatory business practices and exploitation. Others must submit. All benefits must come at the expense of others.

Then they hide behind "boys will be boys" and all that :puke:

People who live inside the boundary of ethics can end up seeking perverse outlets for their sexual energy if they are taught from early age how wrong and dirty sexuality is.

98. No doubt, for the average normal Walter Mitty type, repression has a
counter-effect which may land many in jail.

But I don't think that shrewd politicos can ever be found guilty of being Walter Mittys, or if they were, were quickly won over by fixing their legal problems when they got caught. They get where they are because they're as loose as eels with their morals and ethics. Maybe it didn't start that way, but it's how it turned out. And people who are successful enough to make it to the top, usually do it because they know how to play the game. Not just pretend to be people of good character when they're clearly not, but also because they know how to redirect, misdirect and just flat out blame other people for doing things that they're secretly doing too.

133. I see your point, to an extent.
A Democrat who is homosexual doesn't have a problem being who he is and still manage to have a successful political career. But, a Democrat who is married and has a lover, of any kind, still has problems. i.e. Bill Clinton and that chap from New Jersey.

What you should be asking is, why is this suddenly all falling apart for the Republicans NOW? My theory is that they've been doing it for some time and getting away with it, because they may have been using prostitution services which they thought were discrete. That double life I was talking about.

But someone just put pressure on the prostitution ring and suddenly, they're all coming out of the woodwork. Either on her phone list, or because they can't control their urges and are making bad second choices, like Allen.

And my guess is, that pressure was put on the prostitution ring BECAUSE someone has decided that the Republican agenda no longer serves out country, so the usual agencies that look the other way, aren't doing it anymore. Look how we're attacking the Republican power structure. Not by going directly to their corruption problems, which they all excuse as politics as usual, but through perjury, prostitution and. Just like when they got Al Capone for tax evasion.

The big question is, why NOW? The answer: Because the usual people that look the other way, aren't looking the other way anymore.

He said we(Republicans) met with him behind closed doors and we told him 'if the allegation is true you must resign' and then later today 'he resigned.' He would not say what the allegation was.

So what kind of conclusion can you draw from that?

The Repub Majority Leader looked like he got hit by a truck.

Sure rained on his parade since the former Democratic Speaker of the House was sentenced yesterday to an active prison term for accepting illegal campaign contributions from Chiropractors.

IMHO the public understands sexual infidelity much better than rules governing campaign contributions.

39. Of course, you'll notice that this is the sort of thing conservatives tend to accuse
their opponants of. Especially those who have 'different values' from themselves or are at least different enough to be persecuted by them. I.e., nonchristians, non-heteros, and not too long ago, those of other races, ect. ect.
I do believe the word of the day is: Projection.

51. The employee being chased by Almond was a 63 year old lady!!!
They haven't publicly announced exactly why State Rep. David Almond (R-NC) resigned his office yet. But I hear it was because he broke it out and asked a legislative aide to service it.

The 63-year-old woman was reassigned Monday as a "floater," meaning she is no longer assigned to a specific office...

..."It's disheartening, but if the allegations made by the complainant are correct, then the resignation is certainly appropriate," Hackney said.

132. With you on that
I strongly doubt it's his first offense. This type of crossing boundaries usually is a longterm activity. Many women do not press charges and so it is kept secret and escalates. Predators bank on that, of course. Sexual harassment is actually very widespread in our culture, an indicator of sickness IMO.

I'd be glad Almond is paying a price even if he were a Dem. But while Dems may play around they usually don't get into this kind of behavior. It goes along with the authoritarian, exploitative mindset of Repuglicans. They love to dominate. Probably a lot of them had stern domineering fathers and passive indulgent mothers. Maybe the pattern could be broken one day. You'd have to raise boys to really believe that women are equal to men.

134. It's unfair on Vitter to compare the two episodes.
Using a prostitute may be hypocritical for a married "family-values" advocate, but I'm far from convinced that it's any of the electorate's business.

This sounds like a fairly serious sexual assault, and *if* the story is true - *don't* assume it is at this stage - should almost certainly result in a criminal conviction, and should certainly mean that this guy should never hold public office again.

The two episodes are not comparable. Saying that "this guy had the deceny to resign" is kind of missing the point - he resigned because - *if* the story is true - he's done something much worse than Vitter has.

135. Funny. But this is NOT the whole story...
There has to be more to it than this.
