Bush: Congress and the American People Should Butt the Hell Out and Let Me Be Dictator
I consult with Congress, but dammit, I'm gonna make my own damn decisions because I'm the commander in chief...but I consult with Congress...
:crazy::crazy::crazy:

THE PRESIDENT: You mean in this interim period? Yes. I don't think Congress ought to be running the war. I think they ought to be funding our troops. I'm certainly interested in their opinion, but trying to run a war through resolution is a prescription for failure, as far as I'm concerned, and we can't afford to fail.

I'll work with Congress; I'll listen to Congress. Congress has got all the right to appropriate money. But the idea of telling our military how to conduct operations, for example, or how to deal with troop strength, I don't think it makes sense. I don't think it makes sense today, nor do I think it's a good precedent for the future. And so the role of the Commander-in-Chief is, of course, to consult with Congress.

Who is Congress run by? Our elected representatives. In other words, WE THE PEOPLE. So basically Bush is telling the entire country: butt the hell out, I know how to run this war and I'm gonna do what "I" want to do regardless of what you say or think.

Ed, if you ever come down and visit the old, tired, me down there in Crawford, I will be able to say I looked in the mirror and made decisions based upon principle, not based upon politics. And that's important to me.

10. FYI to Chucklenuts: Congress isn't TRYING to "run the war"!
When they're sending demands to Petraeus that he move two divisions out of Baghdad and into Tikrit, THEN buhs* has a right to bitch about his Glorious War being corrupted by amateurs -- but until then, their job (or at least it is according to "that damned piece of paper" he apparently cares so little about) is determining whether or not the US is going to be involved in a war at all!

But does anybody listen, does anybody care, does anybody even know we're here?

12. * hasn't heard of the Constitution?
Right now, Congress needs to revoke the War Powers Resolution. (Shouldn't it have had a sunset clause?) If, as they say, they don't have the votes, the way to defund the war is just not to send any funds for the war (you don't need *any* votes for *not* sending a bill)
