People, the government and its media are preparing us for more terra.
Have you been listening to the news this morning? Chertoff's gut, easy dirty bomb material purchases, "Qaeda" resurgence, Scarborough just now said he saw police searching people's bags yesterday, etc. We are being propagandized to the nth degree. Congress needs to crank up the heat. Chertoff will start reading goat guts.

1. It works against their own claims though that we were winning
the war on terror. Kinda stupid that they take this route.

4. I agree - esp since their current rationale for staying in Iraq
is "fight 'em there so we don't have to fight 'em here". Keep the terra fear mongering up and I bet more folks will say - well, if they are going to strike here - perhaps we need our defense here to protect us...

6. Yes, but rationality doesn't matter. They are trying to raise the fear
level to regain support. Fear is the only thing that the Machiavelli's have to offer and it's worked out great for them.

8. They don't seem to realize that this strategy has far surpassed
the point of diminishing returns - sinking to the point of negative returns and could fall right into the point of becoming a public point of ridicule and contempt. That bleeds passed the president and sticks to his party for years to come.

21. Yes, but the Cheney admin is populated by personalities completely out of touch
with reality. They live above the law, and that is clearly above any concerns for politicians who will follow in their wake. Cheney/Bush really have very little concern for anyone who comes after them or who must live in the rubble they leave behind.

These guys' only interest is in power for themselves. They have few concerns about anything except demonstrating that they have control of power. They've got this so bad that it's hard to imagine them giving it up in an orderly manner in January 2009.

9. You ain't kidding...
Scarborough is sending out mixed messages this aM...on the one hand, he's making fun of the terra stuff, OTOH, he's having all these terror 'experts' on and making asides like "warnings all over the place".

We'll see what happens...the remarkable aspect of 9/11 is that it was utterly out of the blue...figuratively and literally - it was the most perfect day we'd had in months.

This is just a setup...

10. Would you rather they say nothing if a threat exists?

Then what? Bush knew about this and didn't tell anyone. The government is apparently in a no win situation. Regardless of what I hear, I continue to go on with my life. Unless I understand a threat is coming to my particular street in my particular city, I don't really care what gut feelings they have. I've had a gut feeling we'd be hit again for years, but I don't hide under my bed.

I think it's more damning the report that came out saying Al Qaeda is back to pre-9/11 strength. They have been able to rebuild their strength while our military has been decimated fighting an unnecessary war in Iraq.

12. key word "if"
count many of us as more than skeptical. Even tom Ridge admitted that the "increase the terror threat level" had been used for political reasons (diverting attention from other news.)

Chertoff just admitted on the Today show that there was no intel to back up his claims.

18. No. I would rather believe them when they say there is a threat or when there isn't
rather than think it VERY possible, even likely, that THEY are the terror threat, either indirectly or directy, Hitler & the Reichstag style.

But I do agree with your perspective on that. I still think the chatter indicates the Bushies are going to hit us like their pals did on 9-11.

19. And I think it is beyond ridiculous that out government perpetuates
foreign and energy policies that contribute to the creation of these messes. Our nation has crapped on the world for decades now to keep the Rust Belt rusty and the oil barons rolling in the dough. Shortsighted policies that lead to us CREATING bin Laden to begin with. As for regaining its strength, that has been facilitated by pissing people off and then allowing them a safe base in Pakistan, where Musharraf is our good buddy. Also, heaven forbid, we actually make some demands of the Saudis or ask Israel to get it crap together either. If we're hit, it's because we've dared them to through our actions and policies.

11. Bunches of repugs are "predicting". . I would even say
jonesing for an attack in America. They just can't wait for something to happen. Everyone is going to be strung up to such a fever pitch that a car backfiring will get us all under martial law.

15. I don't like the chatter I am hearing. The Bushies are going to hit us again like 9-11
Edited on Thu Jul-12-07 06:12 AM by tom_paine
Well, not them personally, but their al-Qaeda pals, who work for CheneyBush in the 80s and I expect Bin Laden still has ties to CIA handlers at the very least.

In either case, I always said the closer the Dems get to actual convictions against Royal Bushies, we would be in grave and imminent danger of a nuclear (or biological or chemical) 9-11 which would trigger dicttatorship, and now the chatter coming out of the Bush Imperium is that the new executive order 51 will give them just that.

Yes, I too feel the incrased threat of terror by the Bushies to keep us compliant and afraid.

These guys are beating the war drums about Al Qaeda while they're raping/abusing/persecuting their own citizens on a daily basis? Give me a break.

I detest and loathe the methods and goals of Al Qaeda, but the * administration's exploitation of those threats for personal gain is just beyond the pale.
