This past Friday, I'm walking to my car after work. I park in a 'free' lot so its a couple of blocks walk. Crossing a pedestrian-friendly overpass, I see three people, each holding signs, facing the oncoming traffic of the main arteries below. Its around 6pm and the traffic is still pretty heavy.
These three people were holding signs that read "HONK 4 IMPEACHMENT!" and the passing cars were honking like crazy! I stopped and thanked them for taking the time to be there; thanked them for just showing up. I was struck by how this simple gesture, in a strategic location, was reaching a great many people.
Ghandi said something along the lines of (here comes a paraphrase)"most of the things you will do in life are insignficant, but its very important that you do them" These three people were doing something 'insignificant', but, very important.
I was invigorated by the response these folks were getting. Sometimes here on DU, I get in stuck in this headspace that no one "out there" gets it. The level of honking hammered home to me that I was not alone in my dissatisfaction with how this government has stolen our country.
I might just tuck a sign in my trunk and join them this coming Friday!!
