Two items that we own are being shown in production on the episode they are running this evening. One is a fishing reel and the other is a mixer. The reel was made by a company called Penn and the mixer by a company called Kitchen Aid. They were made in Philadelphia and St. Joseph, respectively
The show, in a 10 minute segment, depicts the manufacture of common items, its really quite fascinating at times. Generally most of the steps of construction are shown as well as the manufacture of component parts. A voice in the background keeps you abreast of what's going on. Very interesting.
What I noticed in this evening's episode is that most of the workers were injured. Bandages over fingers, black and blue fingernails, an Ace bandage on the forearm of one worker. You could see the people running presses and punches, drills and other metal removing, heating, or bending machinery, you could see how they could be hurt and you could see bandages where in fact they had been hurt.
You would think that anyone working for OSHA that saw that TV broadcast would be making an unexpected visit to the factory (probably long since moved to China) sometime in the very near future. No one should be injured on any job. There is no acceptable reason for it and it should never happen.
