The Shawnee Ministerial Alliance is trying to organize opposition to "The Gathering," which will be held Aug. 9-12 at a privately owned site near Cave-In-Rock, a southern Illinois town on the Ohio River.
Alliance Vice President Greg Degrave, pastor of Levee Pond Church in Cave-In-Rock, said he is concerned that there might not be enough police officers available to keep rowdy fans under control.
Degrave's not worried about the band, he said, because they are"just out there to make money." It's the group's fans "who get out and terrorize the community."
The alliance is scheduled to meet with a representative from U.S. Rep. John Shimkus' office on Tuesday, but a spokesman for the congressman wasn't very optimistic about their chances.
